EB1.5

Yes, no such thing, of course. Years ago I botched up my beater '71 EB0 with an EB3 treble pickup (installed slightly crookedly), then screwed it up years later with a Dimarzio Model 1 and its little microswitch that supposedly (laughably) changed the tone to something Ricky-like. So I was thinking about putting the original neck pickup back in, filling the microswitch hole in -- and where we installed a pickup selector toggle, pulling it out and putting in a proper Vari-tone. Then it'd be sort of an EB2.25. My question is -- will the Varitone used in the Epi EB3 work with the old pickups, and will it fit directly into the (properly-sized Gibson OEM) toggle's hole? Anybody know? And I assume any proper Gibson dealer's repair guy can get the part, yes? Suggestions welcome.

As far as finding an nos varitone switch, that might be difficult, although the Epiphone EB-3 has the Varitone switch.

I found a third party Varitone switch on ebay about two years ago that I had installed on my Dot Studio, sort of a poor mans Lucille, so like I said in my previous post as long as you are using passive pickups it should work fine.

IMO - Getting an Epi Selector could be problematic. That's the kind of stuff that doesn't come around unless somebody parts one out. It would also be in a metric size.

Here's a thread from the guitar guys:

The original EB3 rotary wasn't a true varitone. It was a pickup selector that offered nk, br, both and one tone position (neck pickup plus tone choke). I don't know whether the Epi has a tone choke setting or, if it does, what value it was designed for.

If you're already into the mod thing look at some true varitones available.
