I suspect you are fed up spotting fakes, but I could use your help.Firstly the seller bought this as genuine, but can't sell it as such because he is now not sure.I didn't have a camera with me,so the fotos aren't good.

I can't make out the serial number as it's been painted over. One of the pots is stamped ALPHA.It has a set neck and a couple of chips on the body.

It looks good to me,but I know nothing.

The thing is,even if it is a fake,he's only asking 175 for it including case.

Any views appreciated,,,thanks,,John.

Yes,it was plugged in and played, sounded fine, nice low action.I'm not really looking for another guitar, but when I heard the price,I was tempted.

It's in Glasgow if you're interested.

I'm nowhere near an expert, but the Gibson logo on the headstock looks wrong to me. I've never seen a logo disappear under tuning hardware before, AND the top of the 'n' looks really close to the top to me.

Just guessing, but my suspicion would be that this was an Epi with the top of the headstock reworked. Not certain, of course, but it just looks wrong to me.

Wow, that is probably the worst headstock I have ever seen. Agree it looks like a re-worked Epi. Hard to believe a music store wouldn't recognize this obvious fake. [thumbdn]

The seller was up front about it and said he doubted it was a Gibson. It sold on Saturday for 175 including case.It was still a nice guitar whatever it was.
