Midtown Kalamazoo

RRIDER

Recommended Posts

I just checked the Fed Ex tracking site. My Midtown got to Orlando today @ 1:30p. There shouldn't be any problem with tomorrows delivery. Orlando is one hour south of me.

I wish you luck, mate. Let's hope they did, do and will handle your precious freight with care.

Thanks for the well wishes. Unfortunately I will be gone most of tomorrow. I have a neighbor keeping an eye out for the delivery truck. It does not have to be signed for according to the local office. I don't worry about it sitting in the doorway all day...this is a gated community with lots of security. I will post pics as soon as I remember how to use photobucket. Its been a long long time.

First off, welcome. [thumbup]

I've had mine about a week now. I played it at my church where I play on Sundays. I got complimented on the guitar's tone by several people -- none of which are guitar players -- they were just people who liked how it sounded. I LOVED how it sounded there in that large room. I played two songs, one over-driven and one clean, both sounded great to me even through my cheap Behringer AC112 Hybrid amp. The guitar has good clarity in both OD and clean.

As for the looks, my brother-in-law saw the guitar and loved the way it looks, especially complimentary of the finish. He works for a furniture company in the repair department, where one of his duties is patching damaged lacquer paint jobs.

I'm glad the fit/finish is good. I'm looking forward to Friday! Thanks for your report.

Wow! Would have never noticed that! Thanks. I guess I'll have to take back my flawless comment.

Anyone else here have this missing ?

Hopefully it’s the only one with it missing, may be worth something someday. It's still a keeper!

of course! its also proof that each guitar no matter what is still an individual/unique work of art.

if that's the only problem, then you're good to go.

and further, if you have the only one, kinda like a silver eagle coin with the font slightly different than the norm.

you may just have quite a find!

I emailed Steve at Wildwood again today and Gibson has told him that they are finishing up another dealers order and then they're supposed to get to his order. This is looking like 2 months from the time I put down $500 to pre-order to "maybe" getting my guitar... yet I see AMS has them in stock. I am very very close to cancelling my order with Wildwood. It appears I could order from AMS and still get mine before they're ever going to reach Wildwood. I'm going to think about this overnight and then make my decision. I realize it's out of Steve's control however I never thought I would be waiting 2 months or longer for a guitar Gibson stated would be available November 5th. I may very well be cancelling my order with Wildwood and requesting a refund. This is turning into a stressful situation instead of a joyful one. Not sure it's worth it anymore... my money has been tied up since September 28th. [angry]

Rev,

I understand your frustration, but I would believe Steve when he says it's beyond his control. I've dealt with Wildwood many times and they are the best of the best. They don't just receive 'em and ship 'em out like the bigger outfits do - they actually take a hands-on approach. I usually deal with Lance there and he can play a guitar, describe it to me over the phone and when I get it I find it's just as he said.

I understand about having the money tied up, but if you want one of these guitars, I'd stick with Wildwood. Just my opinion! I'm also waiting for a Kalamazoo from them. It will be worth it when it shows up.

Cheers,

Ed

It appears Sam Ash was the next dealer to receive them. They show them in stock. They also sell through Amazon.

Amazon shows 19 available and shipped from Sam Ash as of a few minutes ago.

Gibson, has (generally) always filled the Large volume dealers orders, first!

After that, they claim they go by when the orders are initially filed, as to

the order in which they fill them, from other (smaller) dealers. Personally,

I'm not convinced, based on past experience, that's always true.[unsure]

I think it may have more to do with how their particular "reps" work, with his

or her, dealer=customers. Money talks, and BS walks! [tongue][biggrin]

But, in all fairness, I think sometimes Gibson get's caught off guard, if/when

a particular model really "takes off," and sells in much larger quantities, than

they anticipated. Hence, more production time, etc. So...???[tongue]

Sorry to here you didn't get your guitar . You have been waiting as long as anybody i know and you have been the most energized person on all the sites i have read from . I buy all my guitars from AMS they are the best . i like it i just and to have them put a hold on my money for 2 day it went back into my account and when the guitar ships they take the payment out i got the 12 month payment plan cant beat it $124.00 a month . I would order it from AMS and have it in 2 days . They get guitars first because they sell more and they stand behind there products . Do your self a favor Go to AMS

I have dealt with AMS as well for years so I'm familiar with their excellence and have never had a bad experience with them. And I don't want anyone to think I'm upset with Wildwood - I'm not. It's just that at this point I have no way of knowing "when" I may receive mine and quite honestly I didn't want this to hit at Christmas time. I have other gifts to buy for my family. I guess since I have never pre-ordered a guitar in my life, I assumed that there might be a small delay but it's already 2 1/2 weeks past the date they were supposed to be available and it could well be another 3-4 weeks before I get mine.

I don't like the "unknown" part of this especially with my money sitting out there for this long. I have already emailed Steve and requested that he credit back my $500 so that I may order through AMS. My logic is simple - I can be playing this guitar weeks before Wildwood even receives theirs. I don't want to wait any further. I think I've been very patient and again - I am not upset with Wildwood. At the same time I have not liked having to initiate the contact with them to find out the latest update regarding my shipment. I doubt they'll have any trouble getting the ones they do receive sold fairly quickly once they finally receive them. I'm just tired of waiting guys. [mellow]

That's a tough dilemma Rev. Seeing them in stock elsewhere when you've had money down on it for longer than anyone I've read responses from and without a guarantee that you will ever get one before they sell out of the limited edition, I don't think that leaves you much choice other than cancel. AMS didn't even charge my credit card until after the guitar shipped. Wildwood seems like a great music store, but business is business.

It looks like AMS and Zzounds are out of stock. The only place I can currently find that has them is Sam Ash.

I actually ordered one on Oct 14th, and I am still waiting. I thought about cancelling my order and going with AMS, too late now.

I'll just wait until Sweetwater gets them. My sales engineer there always treats me well. They don't charge your credit card until it ships either.

With the trouble people are having I almost hate to post. Mine came Friday. Here are some observations.

The guitar makes a strong first impression visually. I like the grain of the maple top and the mahogany neck and body. Binding looks pretty good except a flat spot on the lower left corner of the headstock. There is a little sloppy clean up from the f-hole blacking but not discernible in pics below. The chalice is complete and correctly placed. The heel of the neck is oddly shaped, not an even semi-oval but more like a tear drop, like a travel trailer in silhouette. That's maybe kind of leaky in terms of craftsmanship, more like you'd see on an Oscar Schmidt or something ;-)

Playability is awesome. I thought I'd want 10s on it but the 9s feel really right. The action is perfect out of the box, very nice set-up. Fret work excellent. Nice buttery modern jazz sound from the HBs. I only have single coils on other guitars -- Casino Elitist and a J Mascis JM -- so I don't have a lot of HB experience. But these sound great, although I did have to back off amp gain for cleans compared to single coils. The pickups are really responsive and have lots of signal. The single coil switching works, but doesn't really make it sound like my Casino. Not sure how much I'll use that feature.

I have been thinking about a 135 or Howard Roberts but I got pulled on to this bandwagon. I'd be interested in people's impressions of this guitar compared to those though.

Pics aren't great, sorry.

BajaGhia,

Congrats and thanks for your observation and pics.

Don't ever hesitate to post pics of your new guitar...We all love looking at pics.

I'm trying to be patient waiting for Sweetwater to receive them from Gibson.

Are you anywhere close to a dealer you could (at least) try one out?

Might help you decide whether or not to "wait?" Also, that dealer might

price match, with Sweetwater? You never know... [mellow]

There is a Sam Ash about 30 miles from me. I might give them a call in the morning to see if they have one.

When I bought my LP 60's Tribute GT from them, I knew the Warehouse had them before the store did. Although last time I stopped in,

they did have a Captain Kirk Douglas SG in stock. But had it in a glass display case. They didn't want to let anyone play it before

buying it.

I took your advice CB. My wife got off work early today, so we took a ride down to Sam Ash.

They had only one in stock. I did get to play it. I like it all but the strings, it does

need a little heavier strings. In talking to the sales manager, I told him I had one on

order and at a bit of a discount...He said he would match it and put new strings on it or

give me a set of my choice. Needless to say, I brought it home.

pics are from my phone, so not very good. But I know without pics it didn't happen.

Awesome, and Congratulations![thumbup] Glad you got one, and price matched, as well! [biggrin]

I used to deal with Sam Ash, when I lived in L.A. But, I'm no where close to one, nowadays.

Besides, I love the dealer I have! [biggrin][thumbup]
