Hello to you all, this a very nice forum :-)

my question is, is it possible, how do I order a custom shop Gibson LP.

what I want to order is what was made two years ago the "soft shoulder" 55 historic LP Ebony.

so if it's possible , I would really want to know how to do that.

thanks in advance

Hello Mr.Green and welcome to the Gibson forums.

Any request has to be made through an authorized Gibson dealer. In case an inquiry will be denied, this sometimes may take a few minutes only. That happened to me at Thomann, Germany, in an afternoon, so they were able to call the Gibson Custom Shop immediately. In my case, they found out that the instrument I requested will soon be available again from Gibson USA which was the best which could happen to me. I bought it a few months after at a "normal" price.

As far as I know, they can be reluctant to build a former limited model as a one-off later. In any case, the price to pay can be fairly high, and the delivery period can be several months. It is best to contact a dealer with a Gibson Custom specialist who will also inform you about the paying modalities.

Hope this helps,

As capmaster mentioned, you must contact a Gibson Custom shop Dealer. The dealer will put in a request for a price quote to the shop. It may take several days for an answer. Be the price may be considerably higher than what you would expect. Some things that seem simple and should make a guitar cheaper may actually increase the price. For example, at one time I requested a Les Paul Custom exactly like the Zakk Bullseye Custom that was being made, but I did not want the Bullseye painted on top. I wanted it to be just a natural finish. To me it seemed that since they would not have to paint the bullseye, it should be less money. Now that I know the process, I can see how it would actually cost more. It has to be tagged as a non-standard production item, given a special SKU, and tracked through production as a special item and handled differently than the others going through the process. All this extra attention adds to the cost. The guitar you are wanting is not much different than many of them in production right now and a dealer that has an ebony 55, may have one with that neck profile already, which would save you time and money. It may actually be cheaper to get one from a dealers stock and have the color changed. Like getting a Goldtop and having it refinished. Because each neck is "hand rolled", the soft shoulder profile may already in a dealers stock although the advertising may not say it. It may pay you to talk with each Custom Shop dealer and see what they have in stock already. Either way, contact a dealer and find out what your ideal guitar would cost to have built. Also as capmaster said, they may not be able to build a specific model that has already been done. The "soft shoulder" may have been specific to a dealer and that dealer may not be the one you contacted or wanting another guitar built using his specs. You may have to request a neck profile that is identical to the "soft shoulder" but not use the exact name, if that makes sense.

Don't give up. A custom ordered, Gibson Custom Shop guitar, can be a very special guitar.
