Posting Youtube Vids

Recommended Posts

OK, I'm confused...

For some time now I've been able to post embed Youtube vids by simply copying the link in the address bar (as opposed to the "share" link below the vid which didn't work the same) and pasting it directly into the body of my thread post...

Now that no longer works and I'm only getting a link in my post instead of the embedded vid...

I don't know if I changed some setting on my profile or if some site security setting changed disallowing that and I cannot seem to make the embed code from Youtube work no matter what I try...

Not the "Media" button tool, nothing...

My ability went from this post: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/109990-peter-green-pups/page__view__findpost__p__1487442

To this: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/109990-peter-green-pups/page__view__findpost__p__1497549

In about a months time and somewhere along the line the ability to do that posting a vid disappeared...

Please help, I'd like to go back to embedding vids with ease again...

For those of you interested I figured it out.

Possibly the "Media" tag might not be needed still but it does work too.

To embed a Youtube video you need to delete the "S" (standing for secure server) from the "https" at the beginning of the address.

Take the address from the address bar of your browser for a Youtube video (not the address in the "share" box below the video) by highlighting and copying. Toggle back onto the forum and click the "Media" code button. (farthest on the right in the bar above the post body) In the drop down box past the address you copied from the address bar of your browser, then arrow back to the beginning of the address and delete the "S" from the "https" in the addres. Then click "Insert Media" and you should be good to go.

I don't know if the "S" in the address for the Youtube video is new, or that compromising the action on the forum here is new, but either way now all you have to do is get rid of the "S" from the "https" at the beginning of the video's address...

  • 10 months later...

I'm the New Guy around these parts, and I have to say, I was a little dismayed when I noticed how many YouTube vids were posted/embedded in at least the Lounge forum, here. I guess it's just me, but if I want to watch and listen to vids, I'll go to YouTube.

I'm talking MTV-style videos, not to be confused with instructional material or tutorials that can aid communication or point out details pertaining to a discussion about guitars, setups, repairs, etc.

O.K., I'll stop now. Different strokes, and all that...
