So, how do all the "Captain Kirk (Douglas)" SG owners like their guitars, by now?

Just curious, since it's been awhile since most of us got our KD SG's,

if the Honeymoon is now over, and you've had some serious realisitic

evaluations, or RE-evaluations? Or, if it's still LOVE?!

In my case, it's still LOVE! [love][wub]

But, what about the rest of you? Inquiring minds, want to know! [biggrin]

So it's as good as the Sg Original CB? What i don't understand is the prizing of the guitar. Here in Norway you can get the Captain SG for 1600$(only one left), the original goes for 2300$. The Captain Sg got the custom headstock one extra pickup and that blending toggle. So why is it 700$ cheaper? Strange

As good, quality wise, and killer looks, too. But the "Original" is Awesome, as well,

as is the '61 Les Paul Tribute!

As to the pricing, in Europe? I have no idea. Maybe, as simple as "supply and demand?"

Maybe, since "Captain Kirk Douglas" is not that well known, especially outside the U.S.?

Who knows? Gibson does "odd" pricing things, now and again. When I got my Gibson "Lucille"

13 years ago, it was 400 dollars less expensive, than a standard 335! Which didn't make any

sense to me, as "Lucille" is a ES-355, only with the moniker, and no "f" holes. So...???

They've since corrected that pricing situation. So, I'm really glad I got "Lucille" when

I did! [biggrin]

I bought the KD SG Custom, because (1) it was and SG Custom, and (2) was priced really reasonably,

at the time. I had no idea, initially, who (musician) Kirk Douglas was. But I loved the guitar,

and I still do! [thumbup]

It also comes with neck and bridge pickup coil split options I think. The one left you know of isn't in the web, is it? I guess it would be long gone in this case. A few days after release they were sold out here.

The price politics are strange indeed. The satin-finished Frank Zappa "Roxy" SG sold for 400 EUR more. This model limited to 400 items worldwide was gone here also within just a few days.

The web add says it's available in one store, so i guess the store will send it.

Here's the link if anyone is in the marked for one, i just don't have the cash at the moment and i'm very happy with the sg's i got. Have serious HiFi Amp Gas at the Moment [biggrin]Sg Captain

There's a man who knows what he likes!

I started owning LP's first. It took me too long that the SG is more my guitar.

I may end up owning a whole herd of them too in the future.

Lovin' mine! This is my first SG and also my first

solid body Gibson. I had never heard of Kirk before,

and learned of this model when shopping for and studying

SGs. Super cool guitar. It needed a pro set up and

11's before I could start to bond with it. Love all the

different sounds you can tweak from it. The coil

tapped sounds aren't really Straty but cool nonetheless.

Love having the easy access to higher frets! Also

just love the whole styling of this guitar - it really is

a beautiful guitar! The fit and finish is excellent except one

tiny flaw near the neck joint. Also, maybe I am wrong,

but it appears to my naked eye that the curved

shapes at the top of the headstock are not totally

symmetrical, as I assume they should be. It doesn't

really bother me, it's just weird and maybe a sign

that more handwork (and chance for imperfections) goes

into these guitars than I realized. The folks at the shop

that set it up thought it was the coolest SG they had

ever worked on. Really starting to get into this guitar, although

I am mostly a Fender guy!

Hello Solofiddle, welcome here, and congrats on your new Captain SG! [thumbup]

Have already seen your purchase in your avatar. Glad you are fine with her. Perhaps you could post some larger pics - would surely be nice to take a look more closely... [love]

  • 2 weeks later...

Have had mine for a few months now. 2nd owner.

Loving it!

I can have some fun with the tremolo and stay in tune really well.

I got it as a backup to my SG Standard, but it has quickly become my #1
