I've didn't even know this existed. Seems like a great resource. Here is a sample:

Year Units % Change $ Retail Change Avg Price

2013 2,472,000 -.70% $1,070,244,000 7.0% $433

2012 2,489,390 -.9% $1,000,676,130 11.4% $403

2011 2,512,416 5.7% $934,971,450 11.4% $372

2010 2,377,310 4.6% $839,000,000 2.2% $353

2009 2,273,000 17.9% $820,746,000 21.0% $361

2008 2,341,551 20.5% $903,261,000 -1.9% $386

2007 1,942,625 11.4% $921,057,000 .13% $529

2006 1,742,498 5.6% $922,280,000 -0.1% $529

2005 1,648,595 23.3% $923,522,000 21.2% $560

The average price explains a lot of what we see in music stores.

Like all data that you pay for, that example up there does not contain actual data that you would pay for. Those numbers are fake.

True, but I wonder how far off the numbers are. And I noticed the sample does not list guitars over a certain price point. Plus, the data you pay for probably does not include previously owned gear. But it is interesting stuff.

People pay for data???

They do. Privately held companies in Americur are not obligated to provide any information to the public. Survey companies attempt to wrangle up a bunch of information from companies that don't provide information in order to sell that information to peoples that want, for some reason or another, information from companies that don't provide it. What usually happens is the data you pay for is usually extropilated out from a very small piece of information that was gleaned by the seller.

GuitarDatadotcom finds out that GC sold 11 red strats at one store last year and BAM! they will sell you data that says:

((((((11 * number_of_strat_colors) * number_of_GC_stores) + overstock) - hard_returns) * Number_of_retailers_same_volume_as_GC) + Some_number_representing_Mom_and_Pop_shops) = Number_of_strats_Fender_sold_last_year!

In reality, Fedner themselves, when plied with enough beers or coffee dependin on your rep, will happily tell you approximately what they put out in a year, roughly 600 guitars/day in CA, 1000 guitars/day in MX. That is their capacity. How many days a year? Don't know. How many hours in a day makes that many guitars? Don't know. Strat/Tele/Jazz/Precision? Don't know. But you could jack it up yerself to make up some kind of numbers and sell it to people.
