Les Paul 2014 Custom Quilt Antique Natural

Hello everyone,

This is my first post so I hope it's on the right board and on-topic.

I've been looking to buy a new Gibson Les Paul and keeping an eye on the new models announced on the main web site as time has evolved hoping one would leap out and shout "I was made for you" at me as this is a big investment for me.

I was very tempted by the Les Paul Standard Premium Plus Quilt but none of the colour really gelled with me. And then last weekend the weekly newsletter from one of the online stores had a photo of a custom Les Paul simply described as a Custom 2014 Quilt Antique Natural. It was love at first sight! But I was surprised I hadn't seen this guitar mentioned anywhere on the official web site under "Custom" models for 2014.

A Google search has shown very little information. One big US store had a sales page for it which currently says the item is no longer available. Another US store still has the item listed. And the UK store that sent me the email has a page on it.

And that's it!

I would have missed this beauty if not for the online store mailout, and am curious (and a little worried!) as to why models like this aren't advertised on the main web site. The three web pages I did find all talk about a "limited run" but with no indication whatsoever what this means. EVERY run is "limited" by definition so I find the term completely meaningless.

Can anyone shed any light on why models like this don't get listed? Is it that it was maybe produced for just one exclusive dealer and then when there were surplus numbers other stores, like the one in the UK who emailed me, are allowed what's left?

Interested to hear any replies anybody can give. Am just a bit worried that if the time ever came to sell there's very little information on the web about this particular model.

Hello and welcome...

Well as far as I know these sorts of guitars are ordered and made for specific shops, mostly I think in the US... But we sometimes nab some over here... so they are all Custom models and not the production models that you see on the Gibson site.

If you check out these

http://www.wildwoodguitars.com/electrics/gibson_custom_shop/historic_wildwood_spec_les_paul.htm

You will see they are not the usual Gibsons you see...

So yes, you gotta know the right dealers to go to and look out for them. Also sometimes we get some guitars that are made for the Asian market that also don't get advertise on the Gibson site like this one

Also, if you don't get many answers on here you may get more response in the Les Paul section as it gets more traffic...

Hope that helped [thumbup]
