gauge strings for les paul axcess

hello

i would like to know the gauge strings from the factory for the les paul axcess

i have an EPiphone les paul pro fx and it's very difficult to play AFTER the 15th fret (for example)

so

i would try the 9-46 but my guitar has not enough sustain because of the floyd too

so ?

and i think the floyd rose are not good for a lot of bends no ?

will it be better for bending without a floyd or not?

Lack of sustain makes me wonder... The Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess of mine came strung 10 - 46 from the factory. This guitar with the 10 - 46 strings I use is in sustain close to my hardtails strung with 11 - 50 of same brand and gauge.

Although I use different ones, I suggest trying Gibson Brite Wires - their sustain is truly outstanding. Lots of folks like them in particular on Fenders, for their full-range tone as well as for sustaining so nicely. Anyway, since 9 - 46 has an unbalanced string tension, my idea is going with 10 - 46. All of my Gibson, Fender, and Ibanez Floyd Rose guitars are strung 10 - 46. No problems since I started playing FR axes in 1987.

As well as with sustain, I never experienced problems with bendings and Floyd Rose systems on principal. However, since increasing tension of a string brings up the vibrato bridge, bending takes a longer way to achieve the same change in pitch. Moreover, pitches of all the other strings go flat, so in case of playing them they must be bent, too. Bending a second string is no problem for me but three or more will cause seriuos trouble with intonation.

Hope this helps.

i only use ELixir strings

with a sg new century with 10-46 : bends are cool but

for the highest frets, a little bit harder but it’s ok

with an EPiphone les paul pro fx and 10-46 : the sensation is not the same compared to my sg

it seems “plastic” and my guitar is very hard to play after the 12-15th fret

maybe the floyd makes the strings harder at this point with more tension that with 9-42

a lot of tension and the body is not like the axcess

so, it’s very difficult

so i think about 9-46

maybe set up the intonation after that

my guitar has 2 springs in parallel in the 2d and 4th position (there are 5 positions)

i don’t know if i should put 3 strings like a strat sometimes

like a triangle with one spring in the center if i put 9-46

they say 9-46 = less sustain than 10-46

i have a C57 and a 498t

498t is not as good as i thought

To my experience, Elixir strings feel harder than most others of the same gauges, in particular the plain ones, similar to plain D'Addarios. Moreover, static clicks and pops may appear due to electrical isolation by the nanoweb coating, but this proves at least that it works. Corrosion is not a serious problem for me, other than for bandmates who ended up using Elixirs. The click and pop problem can be solved through use of wireless systems instead of a guitar cable.

Honestly, I would have preferred buying a "non-Axcess" Les Paul with a Graph Tech piezo Floyd Rose system, too, and I guess they could make them much cheaper. Most of my guitars have no such thing as an Axcess shaping, so I try to go not that far with spoiling myself with it. All of my other Floyd Rose guitars have bolt-on necks...

Spring configurations are different, varying from three springs straight (Gibson LP Axcess, Ibanez RG) to four (two Schaller modded Fender FR Strats, one Graph Tech modded Fender FR Strat) or five ones (another Graph Tech modded FR Strat). Despite of using same string brand and gauge, different scale lengths, block lengths, intonation adjustment leverage, and spring makes will call for appropriate setups.

Compared to most neck heels and neck-body-joints, I think the one of the L6S with the upper strap knob on the upper bout is the best. Many guitars of mine, in particular SGs, have an upper strap knob on the back of the neck-body transition. This makes the bass sided cutaway virtually useless. I don't understand why they only made the Tony Iommi SGs featuring a strap knob mounting to the bass sided cutaway. I do not miss a second cutaway since my thumb is always on the back of the neck, and to my feel a bolt-on neck or a full-size Les Paul neck joint is less of a problem than a strap knob.

When comparing strings of otherwise same make, lighter gauge means less sustain. The specifically increased vibration loss due to air friction will unavoidably cause this. Nobody can fool physics...

I remember two of your pickup topics including the F- and T-spacing discussions. What exactly don't you like on your 498T? The overall response will always depend on the entire package. My Epiphone Tribute Les Paul with '57 C/'57 C+ sounds damn close to my Gibson Les Paul Standard 2012 with BurstBuckers Pro. On the other hand, two Gibson Les Pauls of mine with '57 C/'57 C+ respectively 2 x '57 C sound radically different.

It must be in the woods. American and Asian mahogany species have a different response although they both are nice tonewoods.

you are right

i use nanoweb yes

maybe the Elixir strings are harder that the others but i like coated strings (especially with floyd rose in order to have a good clean sound a lot of times= a few months )

corrosion is dramatic with a floyd rose because it takes a lot of time to change strings (especially with a pro fx and not with an ibanez for example because pro fx is cheap:()

i saw strings jumped out my guitar and it's not fun

and i don’t want to change my strings a lot of times in a year

with elixir= no problem

i tried Ernie Ball strings too but i was disappointed

i liked the “cobalt”: more high end, output and harmonics but it was not coated so, the strings had corrosion and dirty things

i read that , more tension in the strings = more springs but i would have less tension

changing to 9-46

so ?

if you want to sell your LP Axcess, why not? :) tell me :)

Your LP AXCESS was sold with 3 springs straight ! ok

i have only 2

a specialist told me it was good with 2 springs

but it’s impossible to have 3 springs straight for me because a spring jumped out of the guitar

yes

it’s an Epiphone :)))

it’s true so i can experiment with 3 strings but one in the middle and the 2 others like a triangle

not parallel to the first spring in the middle

if you know what i mean

i noticed that the whammy bar kept my guitar in tune only if it was above the strings

and not at the opposite (near from the knobs)

whammy bar in the classic position above the strings = in tune

i saw that with the fantastic TC Electronic polytune

everyone should have this pedal

my guitar was a cheap guitar but a professional made it sound good (not perfect but better than before)

with : new electronic with orange drops and other things?

with 2 coils taps ok

+

a bypass of bridge pickup (like the les paul standards)

+ an out of phase tone in the middle position

so the guitar can play the songs of peter green and gary moore

to a little bit of funk

i changed a spring just to stop a bad sound i heard

a very hard work to stay in tune

a ibanez edge pro is a serious thing = no problem, it’s serious

a floyd rose special (China ?) is good but you must pay attention to be calm and not to be crazy with your floyd like an ibanez!

i don't believe that i can use like a fool :)

but

i prefer the floyd rose to edge pro because of the various sounds it gaves

but someone told me my guitar was not built with a good construction

it’s not the axcess so…

for the price, it’s good

and i have

new Gibson knobs (gold colour speed knobs) : beautiful !!

with C57 in the neck pos. and 498T in the bridge position

the 498t is very close to the strings (for the E 1st string)

i think that he wanted to give a clean sound

and it’s true

but maybe the sustain has a problem with that

it’s a choice: sustain or a big clean sound

the neck pickup is close to the strings too (for the E 1st string)

So, for the 498t

it’s not a sh4 : harmonics ok

not crazy but ok

i don’t notice a big outpout level or feedback

finally, my guitar has not a lot of sustain at my volume

so if i put 9-46= less sustain= not a good thing

it’s a choice

but i really wonder if i should adjust or put one more spring

with 9-46

one day i will try 3 springs like a strat, 3 springs in a triangle form

i play with a laney lc 15-110+ overdrive or disto pedals

i think that i like better a sh1 compared to a classic 57

warm tone

and good with disto too

but i must try it again
