LangiuJC
I've recently had the chance to pick up an extremely clean 2008 LP Studio. I've done some searching online but I cannot find anything that pinpoints what style neck is on the guitar. I am hoping for a 60's style neck as that is what I am after. I've sent an email in to Gibson already including the serial but haven't heard back yet. Stock pickup configurations would be nice to know as well. I've attached a pic. Thanks in advance. kidblast
hey! Welcome.. I would have to guess the PUPs are 490T/498R combo. got a set in my ~20 year old standard, I dig em, I suspect you'll like em too. have to see the neck to be able to give any hint there. Customer Service should be able to track that down. but you know the neck profiles are never an exact science, as long as you're hands like it, I wouldn't get to too hung up on the spec. LangiuJC
Right. I tend to be very particular about neck profiles. Some just seem like work to play while others seem to play themselves. Here are a few additional pictures. I'm looking to meet up tomorrow to take a look at it.
kidblast
Hi Looking at that second pic from the left is the best on to take a stab at this... I would venture the guess that, in that is more likely a 50s style than a 60s. but that's the thickest part of the neck regardless, I could be wrong
deeman
My studio is from 2006 and it has a 50's neck with the 490r/498t pups. I would guess this guitar would probably be the same but its best if you can try it out and see how the neck feels. IMHO I like the feel of the 50's neck and really dig the sound of my 498. Great sounding pup!
capmaster
When comparing the late 50's and 60's slim taper Les Paul necks of mine to the pictures shown above, I think it's a late 50's neck profile. In my opinion, it's a good idea to start with it. I guess I got rather into 60's necks due to being accustomed to my SG for 32 years than through liking them. For sure I'd wish it wasn't true, but all in all I like the late 50's neck more. To my feel it supports endurance in chord fretting and bending single notes along the entire board, and no other fretting style is harder to play than on thinner necks. LangiuJC
Thanks for the responses. I'll find out tomorrow I suppose when I get a chance to look at it. I've been exposed to a broad range of makes and models as far as guitars go. All except Gibson's for some reason. I had an Epiphone Les Paul not too long and just didn't like the neck shape. Recently a friend let me try a newer Studio of his and it was great. I didn't realize that certain models offered different neck styles. His is a 60's style. I'll see how this plays out and post some follow ons soon. Thanks.

I am guessing mine is towards the thinner factory tolerances for a 50's neck, because it literally feels identical to my les paul with a 60's neck on it. So don't go by the label, pick it up and play it and see how it feels.
LangiuJC
Met up today with the seller and the guitar is extremely nice. Truth be told...I still have no idea what style neck is on it. It is playable to me and that is all that matters in the end I suppose. A little research last night took me to a site that had a few cutaways showing the differences between the neck shapes. Seeing it like that I realized that the overall thickness is fairly close but it's the sides where the fingerboard meets the neck that shows the most difference. Guitar is nice...plays fairly fast. I may tweak the setup a little. Probably in better shape than you'd find on a store wall hangar or even having it shipped from an online retailer. I'll get some additional pictures up later. The color is pretty decent too. I'm not one for the bright red styled bursts. Jose
