byrds1965
As I recall, the Elitist Casino truss rod is different & requires an Allen wrench. Out of town right now, so I can't check mine. I owned an Valensi and still own a Wine Red Riviera and can say for sure my two have/had the Gibson truss rod and they even included the Gibson truss rod tool in the case. Maybe the Casino is different I have never owned one. If so that is disappointing as the other Elitists seem to have the Gibson truss rod, I hope this new one is built to the same standards as my 2 other Riviera's. Let us know when you get back what your Casino is and if it started with the Gibson truss rod (any others that own) and changed/went cheap through the years. byrds1965
I've been checking their web site regularly. On Monday, I'll give Matt a call to see when they are expected and if he knows the street price. I sent Mark, my sales rep, an e-mail today so between the two of us we should get an answer. Thanks! Sleeko
Just one question, what happened to the "Frequensator" tailpiece? Steve. http://cms.epiphone.com/Products/Acoustic/Ltd-Ed-Elitist-1964-Texan.aspx I'd like mine on toast with a frequensator please.

My sincerest apologies for steering people wrong on this. My Elitist Casino is a 2009, and I was certain it had taken an allen wrench rather than the typical Gibson truss rod nut. I pulled the cover off tonight to double check, and it most certainly is a Gibson truss rod arrangement. Guess that's what happens when you pass 60 & are well on your way towards 65! jonny_2_owls
Wow.. Almost my dream guitar... I say almost as why have they not given it a frequensator as these guitars had in 1966? It baffles me ax to why they go to the trouble of creating the "1966 reissue" but miss off such a big feature? Now please don't get me wrong I think this is gonna be such a cool guitar but I can't help feeling a tiny bit disappointed... That said I'll try a get one and put a bigsby bad custom plate on it
Starpeve
I almost got my hands on an Elitist 6 string Riviera (1st run) a few months back. I've been kicking myself since for not making the trip. I'd love to get the '66 Elitist to go along with my elitist 12 Riviera. Hey!! Where'd you score the white trussrod covers? Just what I've been searching for! Nice guitars there ,friend. Ps do the frequensators sound or feel different to the normal trapeze tailpieces?

It baffles me ax to why they go to the trouble of creating the "1966 reissue" but miss off such a big feature? I agree it's an important part of the "look". I wonder though why the frequensator was used in the first place since the Riviera is semi-hollow and doesn't need a tailpiece that attaches at the end of the body? burchster
I think the frequensator was used on the early Sherrys and Rivieras because Epi prob had a bunch left over from the New York factory and they just continued to use them...
'Scales
that...looks....superb Nice work Gibson. Hope they sell well - nice to see the Epiphone name on such a fine instrument!
charlie brown
Had an interesting note, from my dealer, regarding this. They told me, that Gibson told them, these "weren't for sale here, but were for the Japanese Domestic Market, and were not to be imported to Europe or the US...OR, possibly a model only for the "Big Box" stores, and not the smaller dealerships." (Their "rep" (obviously) didn't know, and was guessing!) From what my dealer has told me, of their Gibson "Rep," this is par for the course, with him. But... I then, forwarded the link, from the Epiphone page, depicting this new Elitist model, with the "buy now" link, showing (for Kansas) their 2 stores, as being a dealer! So, I'm sure they're investigating, further, as I write this! Pretty bad, when even their own Gibson/Epiphone "rep" isn't (more) informed/aware, of the new products coming! Jeffery Smith
I suspect that relatively few will be available in the US. The fellow at Sweetwater is going to notify me of when they should arrive. I'll let y'all know as soon as I know something.
Sleeko
. . . seems to me that in the last ten years or so Gibson is going out of their way not to sell guitars.

Gibson has a strange business model, but they also have a lot of good people trying to take care of the customers.

byrds1965
Ok my answer too is the 1966 is only for Japan. Sweetwater is supposed to get a 1963 model what ever that is.

Sorry to read that, but it's probably best for me. I already have an Elitist Sheraton.

I have an Elitist Riviera which I love, but was excited by the stop bar version and in Nitro. Vintage Guitar not long ago had a photo of Robben Ford playing a 60s stop bar Riviera in burst much like this one. I wonder if the Texan too is only for Japan and not for us either. Jeffery Smith
The headstock for the Elitist 1966 Riviera on the Epiphone site isn't the typical one for the Japan market. Those look like Gibson headstock.
