RSC Posted August 18, 2014 Share Posted August 18, 2014 Hello everyone, I recently bought a 2014 SG Special Bass with the Satin Cherry finish.I was wondering what the best way of caring for the finish is? I realize the wood is stained,then has a sealer applied over that. I have been using lemon oil on it and it really looks and feels great.Is there any harm in doing this? Other than that, I really like this little bass.I used to have a 60's EB-O back in the late 60's and sold it in 1971 for a Fender.I missed having the Gibson so I bought this.It's more useable than the EB-O I find. capmaster Posted August 19, 2014 Share Posted August 19, 2014 Hello RSC, and welcome here. When about satin finishes, it is a good idea to treat them careful and clean them with soft movements. Otherwise it could result in unwittingly buffing them glossy. I also want to remind of an unwritten forum rule, valid after each instrument purchase: Pictures, or it didn't happen! In fact I seldom go beyond breathing on them and wiping the sweat off with a super-soft facial tissue. Sometimes I put a few drops of distilled water on guitar or tissue, but that's it. My "worn" and "natural vintage gloss" Gibsons nicely retain their looks this way. By the way, cleaning my pairs of glasses and guitars is the only reason for me buying them tissues. I asked Gibson about the satin finish on the Sixx-bird...they said use the cream and the cloth in their kit...wasn't sure if that was just a sales grab.
