(Somewhat overdue) NGD Posting

So last month I was at my local for a Gibson Showcase, where a product specialist was demonstrating the 2014 USA range.

While I was there, the urge to spend some of that wonderful borrowed money from my credit card became overwhelming, so I ended up leaving with a 2014 Gibson USA Les Paul Studio in a gorgeous Honeyburst finish.

I know it is customary for the New Guitar Days to be chronicled with many pictures, so here is my obligatory posting.

Please enjoy...!

Apologies for posting as links; for some reason I can't get PostIMG links to work with the forum (sidebar - anybody know how to do this?) please excuse any snippets of cats; little buggers wouldn't leave me alone.

HNGD!

Very nice Studio. Hope you have a lot of fun with it...[thumbup]

...LOVE the FB !!!!...

I agree wholeheartedly. Lovely-looking slab of wood there!

HNGD did the knobs cone that way or are you mid switch trying to decide what looks best?

I'm guessing it's a nod towards Mr. Moore's mod to the ex-P.G. '59, Jimi.

Apparently G.M. found the mirror knobs better for the bridge control position as they are higher than the hat-box style and, therefore, could be reached easier.

Mr. Bonamassa seems to like that permutation as well.

Many thanks, all, for your kind comments.

Pippy; you nailed it in one! The knobs didn't come that way, no. 2 of the original stock knobs that came on the Les Paul Traditional (red one!) were split. Someone at the Gibson factory pushed them on with a bit too much gusto! At one point mid-playing I went to turn the bridge volume up for a solo boost and the plastic knob came off in two halves!

So I shopped around on eBay for some spares, and during that I remembered the look that the Peter Green Les Paul (which was passed on to Gary Moore) and how it had mis-matched knobs for the bridge and neck pickup sections. Jo Bonamassa copied this look on a couple of his signature models, so I thought "why not?" and ordered 2 sets of 4, and split them between the two axes.

There are a couple of 'nods' to some of my favourite players:

The neck pickups in both have been reversed in their mount, towards Gary Moore and Peter Green.

The control knobs, as mentioned, as a nod to Moore, Green, and Bonamassa.

The Traditional Pro has the neck pickup covered, and the bridge uncovered, as a nod to Jimmy Page.

H2NGD, mate, congrats, nice guitars. [thumbup]

Love those awesome straps, too. Most of mine are Levy's MSS3, twenty-six to be exact, and all of them in tan. [biggrin]

I do love the Levys MSS3; a strap I'm going to stick with I think! They're very comfortable, and the weight is nicely distributed and makes the guitar feel lighter; and they look really nice, and are a quality make and construction.

The new 2014 Studios and Studio Pros are real joys to play! I had to choose between one of them and a Signature T. Not an easy pick!

I know the feelings, mate. I had a similar conundrum on two occasions; first was between a LP Traditional Pro II and a Signature T; the second was between the 2014 LPJ, Studio, and Studio Pro.

The first was solved by the fact the TP2 fits like a glove, and therefore just wins.

The neck profile and the finish options sealed the decision for the latter.

LIKE the guitar!

LOVE the FB !!!!

"FB"? Might be a really obvious one, but I don't know what that means! [biggrin]

The Finger-Board wood grain is most handsome!

Like I said; really quite obvious - should have got that! D'oh! [tongue][biggrin]

But you are not wrong; it has got a lovely pattern, if I do say so myself.
