brc
He does have a touch of Waylon in his voice. Also, for me nothing beats the sound of a good Martin for acoustc guitars
surfpup
Sounds a lot like Merle too. He's got a bada$$ guitar player from Estonia of all places too, Laur Joamets... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_70HJMikcBo Like most Nashville guys, Laur has a few cool side projects as well ... brc
Dont want to cut into your thread, but sense its about some new country music, you should check out Merle Haggard sons on You Tube. There is Ben, Noah, Scott. I think Merle has nine children<adults now> and quite a few are up and coming singers Ben Haggard has a great voice, and has posted quite a few spots on You Tube. He does Sammy Smiths "Help me make it through the night" and does a great job. Ben is also playing lead guitar for his Dads group, "The Strangers" Sorry if I cut into your thread, but I think the You Tube videos are really worth watching

Cougar
A friend of mine turned me on to this guy this week. Thought I'd share... I love a song structure that starts out sparse, then other instruments join in slowly, one at a time...
kelly campbell
thanks for posting this...when I do listen to country music I too like the "Old School" or traditional, not the pop versions pushed on us from people who throw on a hat and call it country..it is more "country pop" in my opinion...and all too vanilla.
