Robbyritz Posted October 6, 2014 Share Posted October 6, 2014 I have a lovely Les Paul Standard Dec 2008 - serial number 035380667. The problem is that it seems to have all the specs of the 2008Traditional model. Kluson greeny cream tuners, 50s neck, the finish is faded cherry sunburst, so it looks like a '59. Not sure if the pups are burstbuckers or '57s. I'm confused because the headstock truss cover says Standard. But that means it should have Grover locking tuners and 60s neck. capmaster Posted October 6, 2014 Share Posted October 6, 2014 Hello Robby, and welcome here. Truss rod covers are quickly replaced. I often did since I love blank ones on my guitars. Possibly someone did that to your guitar because the Traditional is commonly supposed to be closer to the "real" Standard. This is referring to the specifications of the first appearance of LPs officially bearing this name. Since of 2008, the Standard model underwent several changes, creating several "new Standards" so to say. Anyway, I would like to see pictures, and lots of other forumites probably, too. As you perhaps already know, we passionately love viewing guitar porn, regardless if the truss rod nut is bare or anyhow covered... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

capmaster Posted October 8, 2014 Share Posted October 8, 2014 There are points allowing for a more reliable identification: 1) When removing of the tuners reveals by evaluating holes and traces in the finish that they are stock, this would confirm a Traditional. Standards came with locking Grovers using just one screw on the back for torque support. 2) CAUTION: I'm not sure about this for 2008 production, so perhaps experts will chime in here for clarification: There migth be abbreviations in the pickup cavities saying colour code, usually below the neck pickup, and model code, typically under the bridge pickup. Again, I am not sure it applies to 2008 guitars. 3) Posting pics and serial number to the Gibson Customer Support will enable them to find out the initial model designation and configuration. Thanks capmaster, Ok I'll to see if tuners were replaced and other checks you mentioned above. I thought the serial number shows it was made on 353rd day of 2008... or is it not so simple?
