Tomorrow I need to run about 150 miles of fuel thru the tank with some cleaner in it. I won't mind that a bit. Some days I start riding south from home and feel like just calling my wife and saying I won't be home for dinner (for a week) [biggrin] Course now, she might just say "that's fine and don't worry about coming back" too.

I do want to mode my 5122DC with some Filterton's this winter. I think the HiLotrons would be nice pups too. Those sound slits are very Ric 330-360ish and I love them. Love the Rics too. Oh heck, I love all of my gits.

I just wish mine would get back on a bike with me......but this little "stark terror of dying in flames and twisted metal" thingie won't let her......

"i'm not like I USED to be darlin" I tell her

yeah, she doesn't buy it either........

probably didn't help that the 1st time she ever got behind me, the 1st thing I did was stand it straight up and walk it for about 15 yards.

next thing I did was goad a brand new (+/- '89) Vette into a drag race, w/her still on the back.

"i'm not like I USED to be"........... [laugh]

My wife doesn't give a rip about ride'n on the back either. She's only 5'2" and says she can't see over my head w/ my helmet on. I tell her the cool stuff is on either side all the area I can't be focusing on to keep us safe, but that's where all the views are for the most part. Lame excuse on her part IMHO [biggrin]

Aster, I also have a 5122DC. Let me know how your PUP swap works out if you decide to go that route. Not sure I want to do anything but a "road map" would be nice if I decide to go that route.

Now back to the original post...Congrats on the Green Gretsch. Waiting on photo's.

Well Houston we have a problem 8-[

First of all let me say that the guitar sounds fabulous. I love that middle pickup on a separate toggle switch. With the neck & bridge pups you get your chimey Gretschy sound and it is just wonderful as you would expect from a Gretsch. When you add the middle pup in with either the neck pup, or the bridge pup, or both - it fattens the tone up excellently and the combination of being able to select the pickup configurations on this are worth the price of admission without question. I love this model. The playability and the neck are fantastic, the action is perfect. The setup perfect. Now for the problem...

This guitar was a return to Musicians Friend and that's why it was priced at $857 instead of the $974 which they sell their new ones for (even though Sweetwater and others sell the same guitar for $899). That having been said and knowing that MF would price match with other online dealers - I figured since they advertised this return as "Condition 1 - Mint Condition" that I could save some money and still get what I wanted. Upon closer inspection - it appears the fretboard is in danger of coming loose from the neck. Check out the photos below of both sides of the neck down by the nut. This guitar is going back to MF. The only question now is - will they replace it with a new one for the reduced price or lower for my inconvenience - not to mention the fact "it ain't MINT". [-X

Oh man!

That sucks for ya Rev.

I know you been looking forward to it.

The pics sure looked nice until the last ones.

That looks like more than cosmetic issues.

Surely not condition 1.

Take that baby back.

Good luck Bro.

I hope they make it right for you.

That's a great shame, Rev.

As rct says the thing has been whacked hard to inflict that kind of damage.

I'd also be seriously p'd off with MF for sending the guitar out to you like that in the first place.

What did they think you'd do? Just say 'Ah, shoot. It's broken. Never mind, though.'

Very naughty and not a good PR exercise.

Looking forward to the 'Happy Ever After' ending.

As luck would have it the case arrived today. The guitar was returned at UPS about 2 hours before that. You guys are right - they should never have shipped that guitar in the condition it was in. I let that guy know that I spoke to last night to get the return shipping label emailed to me. I'm like "look at my history with your company - did you guys even look at that guitar before you shipped it?" Of course the CS Rep is several states away from the shipping facility in Kansas City but I wanted somebody's butt to hear about this because it was a hassle to pack it back up and my time is worth something too. Right now I just want my $857 refunded asap. Poop.

Sucks all the way around, especially after you've had a "taste" of the new guitar. This is why I love Sweetwater. They'd have never shipped that guitar. I ordered my Elitist Casino and waited a few months for it to arrive at SW. Got a call that it was in, then a call a day later saying they found a "ding" on the back. Sent me an email with pics. Rep called. Discount? Wait? I opted to wait and the next one came in a week or so later. Moral of the story (and no offense to GC or MF, I've bought from both), but the big two ship a box from the shelf. SW actually does look at these things before they ship them.

In any event Rev, keep us posted.

Very bad or very stupid business practice. I can't imagine what happened to damage it in quite that way and it's outrageous they sold it in that condition. Almost a write-off.

Best wishes for a speedy resolution!

Keep us in the loop. Looks like to me that UPS could have been the culprit as that box could have been dropped flat hard and cracked the neck too. In our state hub in Des Moines, I know all packages drop at least 36"-40" and they make NO BONES about telling you that's the way it is. I use FedEx Ground as much as possible.

I've never had MF treat me unfairly ever!! If that WAS MF's fault I know they move thru so much stuff though that things can happen. Not the companies policy, but people that either don't pay attention properly or say, "Oh well, not my concern." I can tell ya, it's hard to be in business these days with even one person that does that.

Should be an easy fix Rev. Send it back as you should be able to get a 15% off from the $974 about every other month anyway from MF. Just got a 60 Annie Strat from them about 3 weeks ago. That's $828.00 new no frt. no tax. Send that puppy back, just get a new one w/ new warranty. They will be having either a dang Halloween "Fright sale" or a "Thanksgiving sale" something as I'm always getting a 15% off offer.

Glad you like that git. Outside of the neck crack (not its or Gretsch's fault I wouldn't think) it looks great. Love those rounded over Pups and just the whole enchilada.

Take a few deep breaths, forget the inconvenience part and just get the new on a deal. If you ask, they may have a 15% coupon going right now.

Just remember: "Good things come to those who wait." I Think it should be: "Good things, at the right price, come to those who don't hafta have something right now!" That's my motto and I get more that I should have/get at dirt cheap prices mostly.

Hey Rev,

Just received a note on coupons for MF. You need to call to get them right now but they are available. If it were me I'd just get a credit back on the def. guitar and make a new deal right away on a NEW one with warranty. Let the sales person know you NEED a 15% off price to make any guitar purchase. They are on commission and will prolly get approval right away for you.

Just following up and hope your return is solid. Also, make sure you have MF Cust. Service send you a "Call Tag Label" so UPS or FedEx Ground (who ever MF want's to use for the return) goes back on their dime not yours. Hopefully you still have all the shipping box to make it easier. They may even send you one if you thru the packing away.

Way ahead of you my friend. Already returned the guitar and MF already fully refunded my money to my paypal account. I just settled down to the computer after a long busy day and I still have a very expensive Gretsch case to fill so I'm going shopping now. [thumbup]
