SG pickup switch

Hey,

I've noticed that while les pauls have the rhythm/treble switch up left but the sg has it down right. Why is that?

The bodies on the SGs are solid, meaning that it Gibson were to put the pickup selector switch where they are on Les Pauls, you'd end up with an absolutely hideous cover on the back to hide the cavities needed to run the wiring. Not to mention that with SGs being as thin bodied as they are, that probably wouldn't work particularly well. Les Pauls, for the most part, are a solid body with the weight relief and pickup/control cavities carved out with a top piece of wood on top to cover everything, which allows the pickup selector to be placed upper left without needed a bunch of cavity covers (hopefully that made sense). Also if you look at the spacing of the tone/volume knobs on Les Pauls vs SGs, Les Pauls have a lot more room between the knobs, which doesn't really allow for a good sport for the pickup selector to go on the bottom. Not to mention that a SG with the pickup selector located anywhere else would look terrible IMO and could get in the way a bit.
