I'm sure most of us have seen this guitar............does anyone know if Gibson plans on making this black version available to the public? I think it blows the white one away............

That looks awesome! That's the first time I've seen this version of Lady Evil. Has she been playing it a lot on tour?

I'm actually meeting the band in August, if I haven't heard any word by then I'll ask Lzzy HERSELF!!!! [wink]

Cool. I asked a few folks I've done business with in the past and they told me they had heard nothing about a black Lzzy model. Let us know what you find out!

Hello!

Yesterday I put a deposit down on a Lzzy Hale Gibson Explorer! It's due within 1-3 months, a struggle to find one! But really excited! :D

Emily.

Welcome to the club! You'll find that this particular guitar really screams. Sustain for days. Really loves chugging those fat low string power chords.

Congrats, and let us know once she arrives.

Thank you! I used to have a 1989 Epi Les Paul Custom that my dad passed down to me, that was insane! Quality was amazing, so I'm hoping to get an awesome sound and feel from this too! Will keep you all updated! :D

The Lzzy is a beast. I love the sound of the 57+ pickup in the bridge - it's can deliver a very heavy tone without the low end getting flubby or the mids getting excessively fat sounding when played with lots of overdrive. She can sound sweet too, but is built to rock. Explorers just feel good to me as well, something about the way they hang on a strap makes you want to rock a little extra harder! :)

I hope it arrives sooner than later. I had to wait a while for mine when they first were announced as a "pre-order" and it was frustrating towards the end. It was well worth the wait as it's both a stunning looking and sounding guitar.

I've been playing a new Gibson ES Les Paul lately and it's a wonderful guitar too, but in a different way. It's super light, just over 6 pounds, and set up to play effortlessly with rolled fret ends and low fret wire. It sounds amazing clean, or with a touch or dirt. The Memphis Historic pickups are underwound and use unbalanced coils so you can crank your amp a little more and get that creamy overdrive into full blown distortion thing with very long sustaining notes and controllable feedback - my ES has no "f" holes. Blues and classic rock are a no brainer, but I crank her too and find the mids on her remain prominent and growly. She records very well and punches through a muddy mix with ease. Gibsons tend to multiply pretty quickly, so hold on to your seat.

I hope you're inspired to write and create musically with your new Gibson!

I can't wait! Sooner rather than later indeed! Do you know how many were made? It's pretty limited as far as I'm aware? We're there any reissues or are they all the same? As were made in 2014?

Good question about the number produced. Gibson advertised it as a "limited edition" but I don't know how many they plan to ultimately make. Often the usual "limited editions" run between 250 and 400, but in this case I haven't seen any news as to how many they're making.

The initial run seems to be out of stock, though as of this morning (4/14/16) Musician's Friend has a "scratch and dent"/open box return for just under $1,500.

Where did you order your guitar? If you were given a three month wait it seems that it may be part of another batch. They are definitely getting you a new one?

It is only listed on the Gibson website as an available model for year 2014, so maybe they're making a new run. I'd ask your guitar salesman for more info.

Well if it's limited I'd like to thing it's pretty rare! I'd rather not have one that's been returned as there could be anything up with it! Yes it's definitely a brand new one, it was from a website called Guitar Guitar! I can always find out with my serial number I suppose.. Couple of questions, what brand and gauge of strings do you use? What does the guitar come with (COA?) Still so excited! :D

I like Ernie Ball Super Slinkys. They are .009s made from nickel plated steel (NPS) They bend very well, last a long time, and have a balanced tone. If you find you are over-bending you can try .010s, but I'm a .009s guy. D'Addarios in .009/NPS are also excellent and very popular.

No COA comes with the guitar. You get a owner's manual, a truss rod wrench, a warranty card, and a "quality checklist".

I checked out Guitar Guitar. I wonder how they are going to get a new Lzzy since from what I can tell they were exclusively made for the 2014 model year. I know that dealers sometimes plead with Gibson to produce more of sold out models - maybe that's what going on here. Or maybe the dealer knows that Gibson is coming out with more. Who knows???

You're right to be excited - it's an awesome rock guitar!

How awesome would THAT be to have her, that axe and stack waiting for you when you get home after work! [laugh]

I'd settle for the amp. It's not like that pic jag makes me involuntarily change underpants.

Then again, guilty as charged - I saw her "Rig rundown", and few things are hotter than women who are passionate about guitars.

Meat of the matter: haven't played one, think it looks too girly, can't afford one. In no particular order.

I've heard that there were around 170 of the Lzzy Explorers made and there won't be any more made. I actually contacted Gibson directly just before I bought mine because I bought one on a site that showed they were 'on order'. After waiting a couple of weeks with no updates I contacted Gibson and was told that none were showing in their system nor were any more scheduled for production. That was a couple of months after release in 2014.

I've also ordered guitars in the past, in particular a Bill Kelliher Golden Axe, from a dealer that was still taking orders long after the initial run ended. After again calling Gibson directly and being told no more were in stock and no more would be made I called the dealer and they had NO idea they wouldn't be getting more. Some dealers just blanket order models then advertise them as 'coming' and have no clue that they're never receiving them. Unfortunately, I would bet the farm you won't get a brand new one.

Sorry to report I am currently very unhappy ,Ok I bought this guitar because of the specs, I am not a fan of LH but the guitar was almost the exact spec I have always wanted, white(not cream) gold hardware, etc.. everything except the pickguard. The guitar is currently unplayable. I brought this guitar home played for maybe ½ hour put it in its case and I have been working out of town since with only brief moments back home. Now I am back home I pull the guitar out and it is unplayable fret buzz, many frets are dead, the E,B,G strings wont even sound when struck open. Huber&Breese tells me to give them some cash and they will make it play again. This seems ridiculous to me, aren’t these guitars supposed to be PLEKed and have the ultimate in low/action playability clear clean sounding that cannot be achieved with human hands alone. And now I am supposed to PAY someone to start raising my action and filing my frets. This seems like an unacceptable situation.

I have contacted Gibson through this site and I am currently waiting to hear what they have to say about it. As for right now my dream guitar is unplayable

You do know that strings can only go so low before they are unplayable, right? PLEK'd doesn't mean "low action". "Low action" is what people do to their guitars thinking they are doing someting cool and great when in fact they are not.

So what I am saying no body has touched this guitars set up besides Gibson when it got the magical PLEK’d set up and now it has been played under an hour and it is currently unplayable. The action was very low the way it came from Gibson and it played very nicely. So you are saying my lack of knowledge about the plek machine is the cause of my problems and I should just be happy to look at this guitar and not bother Gibson or share my experience with others?

No. I'm saying there are very few things that go wrong with guitars, strings, string heights, action, and playability. The most common one is that wonderful day that a guitar player gets his strings lower than anybody elses. The next day he is in here complaining about a crooked neck or crappy frets or some other thing, and never gets it when people like me tell him that 80% of his problems will go away with a smidge of a lift of the strings.

If your guitar went in the case fine and came out not fine, there aren't many things that went wrong, and PLEK isn't one of them. What is unplayable? Is it unplayable all over the neck, up high? All strings, the low ones, the skinny ones? Can't bend? What is unplayable?

You are asking “what is unplayable?” oh I thought you read what I had posted before you replied, well this is the internet.

Strings that don't sound when played open are sitting on the frets. If it was played a short time and put away, how did that happen? What does the bridge look like? The nut? Are the strings laying on the frets? How does a guitar go from the greatest Explorer ever to unplayable while sitting in a case? Could the pridge posts have been turned accidentally? Can you not turn the bridge posts and lift the strings?

Yes, this is the internet. Gripe away and do nothing, or try a few things to ease this "unplayable" condition your guitar has so mysteriously gotten into all by itself.

Q1."Strings that don't sound when played open are sitting on the frets."A1.the hell you say? Q2."If it was played a short time and put away, how did that happen?" A2.yea that was the question" Q3."What does the bridge look like?" A3.looks like a Tone Pro locking Tune-O-Matic The material must be Zamak oh and its gold, Q4."nut?" A4.white Tektoid say about 1.695" wide. Q5."Are the strings laying on the frets?" A5.yes Q6."How does a guitar go from the greatest Explorer ever to unplayable while sitting in a case?" A6.I don't recall saying it was he greatest explorer ever, I may have said it was my dream guitar and I said it had low action and played very nicely, again how did that happen, yea that's part of the question? Q7."Could the pridge posts have been turned accidentally?" A7.um no, no they could not. Q8."Can you not turn the bridge posts and lift the strings?" A8.yes I could, I have set up many guitars over the years but no I find me or paying someone to fix something I shelled out 2k for in unacceptable.

your Statement "Yes, this is the internet. Gripe away and do nothing, or try a few things to ease this "unplayable" condition your guitar has so mysteriously gotten into all by itself." --My whole statement was "You are asking “what is unplayable?” oh I thought you read what I had posted before you replied, well this is the internet."

I made this statement because you were asking me questions in a fairly condescendingly flavor that I had clearly already given answers to in the my first post and now that I have called you on the condescending oversight you make that statement that I suppose is suppose to make me look like the bad guy. The only thing I have really got from all your posts are that for some reason you feel free to attack my character with insinuations of my lack of knowledge or to insinuate that I am somehow being dishonest and caused this problem myself like you did in your last statement when you said "unplayable" condition your guitar has so mysteriously gotten into all by itself." I guess since that's cool for you to attack my character without knowing a thing about me I should take the same liberty with yours and say furthermore my remark about the internet was because it doesn't matter what message board someone goes to there you are. I mean not you but someone just like you. Someone posts something asking for help or an opinion and there is someone like you offering zero help and trying to make that person look bad, or unknowledgeable, implying that they are the problem, some will even resort to attacking someone's grammar and many other things in an effort to look good. I suppose you people do this because these internet message boards are the only little world where you feel you are important and relevant. You must really think that the other members reading your posts think you are the all-knowing grand wazoo. I can tell you from the messages I have been getting from people they think something entirely different of you. Who knows maybe because you post here none stop you feel this is your turf and it's your right to hassle anyone new, if that's the case I think you are missing the point of message boards. Who knows maybe in some twisted way you think you are helping someone and if that's the case please stop.

Now ZuWa who started this thread said "Please participate and tell us about your Lzzy Explorer. These guitars are selling out everywhere - I believe the total production will be under 200."

Somehow I took this as tell us all about your guitar and buying experience etc... I did not see where it said only post positive feedback and do not report any problems you have had with your guitar. Seemed to me this was the perfect place to share my experience with this guitar.

I thought perhaps someone else might have gone through a similar problem with their guitar and could tell me how they got it resolved through Gibson or even just tell me how to get Gibson to respond to messages I have sent them regarding the matter.

To those of you that have sent me messages thank you for your support and humor about all of this.

Thank you again
