IanHenry
British 70's Rock & Roller Alvin Stardust sadly passed away this morning: http://home.bt.com/news/uknews/alvin-stardust-dies-at-age-of-72-11363938992526 I was reading a funny story about him, when he was due to appear on Top of the Pops for the first time he had to dye his hair black, and in doing so got hair dye on his hands, so he had to wear leather gloves, which became his trade mark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0ZqNBd_orI RIP Ian
capmaster
This is sad. He was very popular during my teenage years. Didn't know about the history of the leather gloves he wore. Thank you for sharing, Ian. R.I.P., Alvin. :(
pippy
Ah, that's a shame. I didn't know that much about him until a few years ago when a guitar mag carried an interview with him. He came across as a thoroughly nice, interesting bloke. He spoke about being in the middle of writing and recording new material so I'm guessing that's the album they mention in the article in the OP? I always thought his real name was Shane Fenton but it seems that that was a nom-de-plume too. R.I.P. Alvin/Shane/Bernard. You were very entertaining and just good fun to listen to. P. Guest Farnsbarns
Sad, Never been in to his music but he did seem a nice bloke. I saw him on TV a while back. He had this cheap acoustic from the 60s which had been signed by everyone who's anyone in Guitarland. Estimated value was was over £1,000,000. IanHenry
Never heard of him. He is like a Glammy - Elvis. Yes, I didn't think he made any impact outside the U.K, and yes he did model himself on Elvis (I understand he did it as a joke initially) and I think he had a hit with one of Elvis's numbers.
