SteveFord
Is there any reason why manufacturers are not fitting a top strap button on the guitar body? I just picked up a Martin and it seems kind of odd that you have to drill your own hole and mount your own strap button. I believe that the Gibson acoustics are the same way. Is there any reason for this?
duluthdan
I suppose it is because not everyone wants or needs a strap button. I play sitting down, almost always, so a button is not really needed. Plus, its a manufacturing step - time, material, location of the button. Its probably best left to the player. DenverSteve
Most don't but it takes all of 2 minutes to install one.
mountainpicker
I find it to always be real exciting to whip out a drill and drill a hole for a strap button in a newly acquired guitar! But I play with a strap so I do it.
blindboygrunt
a strap button can easily be added but one can't be taken away. makes sense to me. I am a strap button guy by the way. gibson guitars are bought buy folk who like a bit of tradition , who often nod to the past. you'll find very very few taylor players who like a headstock strap . I laughed at my friends porsche because it has a cup holder in it. surely mixed marketing there :)
fortyearspickn
Steve, Also because there are 3 or 4 possible locations for the strap button, some vary based on how the guitar is built inside - so what happens when you find a guitar you love and Gibson put the button in the 'wrong' place for you? kebob
It's a personal choice -- best left to each individual.
