metriccar
I want to buy a Gibson J35 and was considering saving a few hundred by buying a used on on ebay. But are there a lot of counterfeits out there like the Les Paul? If there are I won't risk it.

RichG
It would be about the same risk as getting a counterfeit $5 bill. If someone is going to fake something to make money, they fake the higher end items. The joke in the corvette collector hobby is that 33 of the original 16 L89 1967 corvettes still exist. Nobody fakes a small block with no options. I've seen fake Martins on eBay, but rarely a fake Gibson and those were so bad as to be laughable. DRC
I've not seen J-35 fakes, but there are definitely J-45 fakes out there. Is the one you're considering an older original J-35 or the newer reissue? DC
DenverSteve
Remember that the best way to avoid being scammed is to purchase from a reputable (established) seller. Also carefully examine comprehensive photos of the instrument being considered.
