two different gibson buckers

Have gotten interested in the Gibson ES-165 Herb Ellis model... maybe the early ones sort of qualify as vintage.

As some of you know, the most models had a single neck regular humbucker, Then the last few years it was changed to floating jazzbo type of bucker called a BJB, and had pickguard mounted volume control. What's the difference in sound and output/relative volume of these? At first I thought the BJB might be like a Gibson mini-hum but those were brighter sounding things, and usual jazzbucker sound was darker.

Any ideas here?
