Has Gibson ever built an Acoustic Bass Guitar?

Yes...They made several. They were based on the J-200 body. They were wonderful guitars. They wouldn't sell them as they were prototypes. Arlo Guthrie came to visit the plant and play a concert for the employees as a thank you for them producing the Arlo guitar. He saw the guitar sitting in the inspection room and asked to buy it. They gave it to him.

The GM at the time knew nothing about guitars and ordered two Mexican Bass guitars to spec out. He got two stand-up basses. He was trying to buy two Guitarrons. He was going to study the construction and improve on it. Ren had a better idea.
