Jimi Mac
While I've heard several covers of , I'd not seen this album that was marketed as a Blues Jam with Hendrix and BB King. While I'd suggest that both Hendrix and BB King are on the album, I suspect they did not play together. I've heard they met but never played together, but don't know if that's true or not, I've not done the research myself... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhYYMs2ujFs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpZ2XB1za3E At first I was morally certain it was not Jimi playing on this track, but then he gets into that chord strumming groove thing he does consistently and it does in fact appear to be Jimi Hendrix playing on this one. Then on part 2 it became pretty clear it was Jimi. But by the tones I'm pretty sure he's playing either his SG or possibly his Flying V on this one. I'm quite sure he's pulling Gibson tones in this one... At first I thought it sounded very reminiscent of this John Mayall's featuring Peter Green... In part 1 it's very structured compared to most of Hendrix's work, but by part 2 he settles into his style more and sounds more signature. Piquant find... Jimi Mac
Well I guess this answers that question and ignorance of my own... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OxxCSIeItc Clearly they were on stage together that night... I've heard it rumored that this was recorded on the night Martin Luther King Jr. was martyred. I cannot vouch for the veracity of that allegation yet... Very interesting none-the-less...
