go to guitar? depends but i can say this anything that does NOT say gibson or fender on the headstock, and currently after realising the epiphones dont get teh same kinda love in the support dept especially 90 to 99 era instruments i may end up avoiding epiphone to, which is a shame because epiphones are actually high quality ( higher quality than the overpriced "gibson" counterparts in my honest opinion). what i say to manufacturers is this f me once piss on you f me twice? never! i show my displeasure by not spending my cash with the offending company/companies and if gibson dont start showing us epi owners the same love as the people over paying for a name on the headstock then it will be so long epi.

Maybe it not the company maybe its the player . Yes i do be leave its the player . There is nothing perfect in this world .

I guess my '93 G-400 would be my go-to guitar, although my American Standard Tele has been getting a lot of play time lately. I've now owned the G-400 20 years, and it got a huge refurbishing last year that exceeded the value of the whole guitar. Its one of the early Samick ones with the simple inlays and speed knobs. The neck is just amazing-modeled after the 1962 SG. Gibson is producing an SG XTRA Slim this year with the same neck profile. [thumbup] I'm selling my Les Paul to get one! :o

that G-400 is lovely.

I recently bought a black second-hand one for my teenage daughter to learn/play on. Considering they are possibly the single biggest selling model of any electric guitar made by any branded company, you generally always hear good things about them and happy owners. [thumbup]

Thanks! Its held up extremely well considering its over 20 years old and I gigged with it in college. It sounds amazing with the electronic upgrades. Good choice for your daughter!

All very beautiful instruments. I have to say though My personal favorite is the blue Les Paul absolutely stunning. But this based on looks alone, the sound is what would make the biggest difference in one particular ax over the rest. My all around number #1 is My wine red and cream 2014 Les Paul Traditional Pro. It's the only one I own at the time I must admit but, I have owned several guitars Some beautiful and sounded like crap, some looked like crap but sounded good. But this Epi Les Paul with the coil splits is the first guitar I've ever bought off the rack and didn't immediately want to change it. I love the way it plays and sounds as it is from the time I picked it up in the store and played it maybe 15-20 minutes. after about 2 months of playing it everyday I have decided to change all the electronics except the pick-ups. I still don't intend to actually change them but replace everything with better quality parts and wire. Well, and a few magic triks I've learned through. the years working on mine and friends guitars and amps. I'm no real tech, or luthier by any means but more of an amateur hobbyist. [thumbup] Have a good-un.

I am planning on building another Strat from scratch, an Eric Clapton "Blackie" clone.

[rolleyes]

Both guitars are very nice. I am starting to really get into the semi-hollow electrics.

Actually, those two (shown) are "Archtop" full hollow body guitars. Semi's are more

like the Dot, Sheraton, Riviera, etc. [biggrin]

However, Epiphone has chosen to lump the semi's with the full hollow bodied guitars

under the same "Archtop" category. Which may be "technically" correct, as they all

have "arched" tops. [tongue] But, very different tonal characteristics, and size and

weight features, as well.

So I have a sheraton. That has a solid piece of wood down the center I think. Are these guitars completely hollow like an acoustic? I guess mabey you can tell by the way the bridge and tailpiece mount. Like I said, I'm just starting to get into these types of guitars.

yeah, Epiphone Casinos, Gibson ES-330's etc are completely hollow - the arch top with f-hole was just another way of building an acoustic guitar instead of a flat top with sound-hole. Then Gibson and others started adding pickups to them (which meant they needn't be so deep so thin-line variants also emerged) - because of tricky to control feedback, manufacturers started putting blocks in them (like say a Gibson ES-335). Some prefer one over the other, but both are available still - just differentiated as 'hollow' or 'semi-hollow' accordingly. Try both and see what you prefer - the hollows are very light weight, semi's more the weight of a solid guitar. Feedback is a consideration in some circumstances - horses for courses.

That's the quick and rough explanation anyway - others will be more knowledgeable on details.

My go to guitar does change from time to time. Right now it's my Agile AL-3000M neckthru. It has a heal cut for much easier access to upper frets which I love.

Man, that thing is sweet! I've never played an Agile or even seen one in person for that matter. I hear about them enough that I'm curious to get my hands on one!

My go to guitar which I pledge undying and total love and affection to changes from day to day. Sometimes from hour to hour. I am fickle that way. Today though, or at least so far today I have been unflinchingly adoring this one:

I watched this one for quite some time and finally just before Christmas MF offered them up at clearance prices. With only the merest part turn of each thumbscrew to compensate for .011 flatwounds, I can honestly say that this one came setup out if the box. Action, intonation, Bigsby tension and response, pickup height and balance, this has been the single most perfect Epihone electric purchase I have ever made.

That's a really nice looking Sheraton! (said the envious Dot owner, LOL)

Wow! I love the black bigsby on that. I want to put a black pickgaurd on the sheraton and now I might have to change all the hardware to black. Upgrade the pickup to something black and uncovered...... I see another project coming! :)

Gotta be honest here, this is a "highly" modded Dot, that is never going anywhere. Total rewire, elec and p/u upgrades, etc. not to mention the black knobs and the Bigsby. I'm a big black/tan fan but didn't want to influence you in any way. Your Sherri is a beaut as is but with a few mods...??? [confused]

I agree with your thoughts on that Agile as well. Never had a chance to see or try one, but boy, are they lookers!! [thumbup]

If I had all of the beautiful guitars that you guys have, I wouldn't be able to choose my "go-to". However, Since I only have 3, my "go to" is my G400 Pro.

I even lick it....I have issues.

what's not to lick...um like...lolmsp_smile.gif

May I inquire what version Mustang amp is that ? How do you like it, with that nice ES-355 and any others you might play through it ?
