Changing Pups; Humbucker-to-P90

Recommended Posts

Hey All! I am wondering if Gibson or an aftermarket parts manufacturer makes a bezel or similar item that would allow the mounting of a P-90 pickup in the route for a humbucker? Something that would look "finished" / good? Any info or advice is appreciated. There is a possibility to get a faded SG that is pretty beat cosmetically. I'm toying with the idea of doing a refinish ala StewMac components and converting it to a P-90s guitar. I'm not skilled enough / nor do i have the equipment to fill the voids and re-rout.

Thanks!

Brian

Hello Brian!

You can go a less complicated route:

Gibson P-94 (Humbucker-sized P-90s).

Or Seymour Duncan Phat Cats:

Even better: Seymour Duncan P-Rails!

With the Triple Shot mounting rings, P-Rails will provide You with bunch of tonal variations: http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/accessories/triple-shot-mou/

Thanks Bence! You inspired me to do some more searching and I found an archived article about this topic. Fralin and some other "boutique" pickup makers also make them to fit in the humbucker rout. Lots to think about...

thanks again! Brian
