Rare mystery Epiphone?!?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I own a 1998 Epiphone Les Paul ES Custom Ebony with two F holes. It's one of those: http://www.exceptionalguitars.com/inventory/detail.php?sn=EPEL071020

That guitar isn't listed in the Epiphone out-of-production list and they're not producing them anymore either. On Wikipedia I read that there are only 50 in existence but I doubt that figure is correct. Do you know anything about these guitars, do you know how many of these were produced?

Looking forward to your replies.

Those are great little guitars. They are the EPI version of a Gibson Florentine.

Made in Korea.I have no idea how many still exist, but am fairly sure that more than 50 were made. My records show that more than 37 of them sold used on eBay between 2007 & 2010. I lost track after that. I've owned two and at times wish I hadn't let them go.

IIRC the Ebony model was called Elite and ran from '95 or 6 to '99. It has a solid center block. After that, '99-'2000,they made an ES model that came in Tobacco burst, Cherry burst, Ice tea Burst, & Wine. They have a floating center block, so the feedback more than the Elite. Both are great guitars, and have easy on the shoulder weights without losing the Les Paul sound.

Gibson made a new run of Les Paul ES guitars and Epiphone has a new run of them out of China last year but I haven't had the pleasure so can't comment on them.My guess would be that they are also nice players with thinner necks.

If you search this forum for Florentine, or Les Paul ES you will find several posts that might help.
