PelhamBlueFire
Let's say budget isn't an issue, and you just want to get a really nice Fuzz pedal, which one would you get? To complete my pedalboard, I want to get me a Fuzz pedal. There are lots of brands that make these pedals. So, what are some good Fuzz pedals out there? jdgm
As you say there are a lot out there. High-end stuff might include these: Zvex fuzz factory - http://www.zvex.com/ Expensive but amazing selection of pedals! Hartman - several different fuzz variants - http://www.hartmanpedals.com/ Fulltone have a great rep - http://www.fulltone.com/pedals As do Prescription Electronics - http://www.fuzzbox.com/yardbox I like Foxrox too - http://www.foxroxelectronics.com/CCHybrid.html And Dunlop make a few different Fuzzfaces, signature and big/small models - http://www.jimdunlop.com/products I don't know the difference between silicon/germanium/zirconium transistors but apparently they all have their own different qualities of fuzz. And also IMO a fuzz should have the potential to be NASTY and buzzy..... Regards!
PelhamBlueFire
That Soulbender pedal from Fulltone has caught my eye. Saw a couple of vids on Youtube that covered this pedal. Nice sound, but obviously I need to test it IRL.
Searcy
The only fuzz I have ever been really impressed with is the EH Big Muff Pie.
PelhamBlueFire
The only fuzz I have ever been really impressed with is the EH Big Muff Pie. Nice pedal! Also, verrrry big. I already have quite a few big pedals on my board, so I might look for a smaller one.
RevDavidLee
Lots of good suggestions up above. I believe I own about 25 different fuzz pedals and could not discern any particular favorites to tell you to give a try. Lots of great ones out there! As with any pedal - tone is subjective not only to your ears versus mine, but also (of course) the type of guitars and amps you are using. Some fuzzes sound better with single coils - some with humbuckers, some work well with both. As well there are fuzz pedals I use at home in my studio that sound fabulous but that won't cut through the mix in a live gigging situation. You're going to have to try out a bunch to find the one(s) that work for you. Read reviews, watch demos & most importantly - try some out with your own setup. Good luck with your search! dReit1
Nice pedal! Also, verrrry big. I already have quite a few big pedals on my board, so I might look for a smaller one. I like my Big Muff. They make a Nano size, they say it sounds the same, but I can't say for sure. Especially when they don't seem to make them sound the same from one year to the next in the same size box. Riffster
I would recommend any Fuzz by Mojo Hand FX. Go to Prymaxevintage.com and see the videos they have for each, you'll see how good their stuff is. This is what I have from them, it is a replica of the tall front Russian Big Muff Pi
ZuWa
Check out the Devi Everline of fuzz pedals. Very inexpensive, very fuzzy. I like the Torn's Peaker.
EVOL!
Zvex fuzz factory - http://www.zvex.com/ Expensive but amazing selection of pedals! As do Prescription Electronics - http://www.fuzzbox.com/yardbox I own four fuzz pedals and wish I had more. The one on my board right now is a Fuzz Factory. The only pedal I have found that does Velcro fuzz better is the Yardbox. The added bonus with a Fuzz Factory are the sometimes uncontrollable oscillations. Back to the Yardbox; it is the only piece of gear I have sold that I still kick myself for selling. These are the two fuzz boxes I would recommend. My other fuzzes are a Fuzz Face mod'd to vintage specs and a Ge Fuzzrite. Both are very different and both have their place in the mix. Because the Fuzzrite is old it is too noisy and unpredictable to use live.
Jon S.
The Big Muff and Fuzz Factory are my 2 favorites. Lately I've been using a Way Huge Fat Sandwich with the distortion cranked as a fuzz, and really dig it.
brad1
It's Chinese, and it's cheap. But I like the fuzz I get out of my JOYO Ultimate Octave. Has octave-up feature and a mid-cut switch also. I can get a lot of cool sounds out of it.
Californiaman
I like what Gearmanndude says about a Big Muff and Telecaster, "A Big Muff and a Telecaster go together like ham and cheese." It's good. But I'm satisfied with 69 Slight Return from Fulltone. It's very playable. Harmonically rich.
