1950s J-45 nut width question

Is there any specific year models that have the wider nut widths? I prefer at least 1 23/32" and a 1 3/4" would be even better. I'm seeing a lot of 1 11/16" nuts on pre 1958 models. I'm guessing that there's a lot of variation on any given year model, but what do you experts say? SJs and J-50s are acceptable but I haven't seen a single J-50 with a wide nut.

My '57 J45 was very easy to play despite the 1 & 11/16 inch nut. Nevertheless, there was just enough room on the fboard to get another 16th of an inch in the string spacing by having a good luthier cut and slot a new bone nut. Unless a vintage instrument is 100% original, and not that many are, you can squeak out a little finger spacing by doing this. On an orig that you wish to preserve you can stash the nut and re-install if you're selling as original.

I think this is a usable alternative and have done it twice, so far. Also, it's one of the least costly mods you can make.
