jlr430
I'm in the market for an SG Standard, but I'm having a hard time telling the big differences between some of them. I understand some have different tuners and other smaller differences, but I was curious was really differentiated these guitars. Thanks for any help. - The 2014 SG Standard (list price $1,635) http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2014/SG-Standard.aspx - SG Standard 2015 (list price $1,875) http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2015/SG-Standard.aspx - The SG Standard (list price $1,299) http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/SG-Standard.aspx - SG ’61 Reissue (list price $1,599) http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/SG-61-Reissue.aspx Also, why does the selling price seem so inconsistent? Maybe it’s just the ’61 reissue. Am I missing something? jaygl
The 2015 Gibson's have some major differences compared to previous years. The brass nut, zero fret, wider neck etc... The 2014 and 61 RI have alot in comon. 57 classic PUP's, 60's profile neck, "vintage pickguard". Play a bunch and see what you prefer. IMHO the 2014 Gibson's are outstanding for fit and finnish and overall playability and sound. I agree that the price difference between the two 61 RI's you posted from fleabay seem's drastic. Condition and demand both play a part in what any given instrument is worth at any given time.
jlr430
After more reading I don’t like the 2015 changes. What are the big differences between the 2014 Standard and The Standard that I listed above? The price difference is pretty big. I think these are the two different ones.. http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-GIB-SG14-LIST http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/gibson-2014-sg-standard-electric-guitar
bongofury
I can only tell you my experience . I tried them all the 2013 the 61 the 120 the 2014and 15. I went with the 2014. I will explain . And this is my second Sg . 2013 is based on 61 reissue. Slim neck nibs on fret board 57 pups nice guitar. But for me the 14 offered more had fret over binding Graph tech nut coil tap for more sounds slim neck and Mini tune 120inlay. Fit and finish outstanding on mine got lucky!!! The 15 big thick neck and wider .zero nut that makes Strings ping a bit and very low frets might buzz a lot I also didn't want les Paul's name or pic on my sg. But again I took advice of members and played them All you have to find what's right for u I took a month and kept going back and forth to all the shops. Not sure what direction gibson is going and prices Went through the roof so get one now. Hope that helps a bit. Most important go play them . But still for a 2014 you should only pay from 1,499 to 1,699. Good luck . Let us know what you decided and why.

jlr430
Wow, thanks for the help. One last question...What's the difference between these two? The white one is a dent and scratch but they still seem like different models (one says min-etune while the other just says etune on the headstock for example).. http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-GIB-SG14-LIST http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/gibson-2014-sg-standard-electric-guitar#productDetail
bongofury
É tune is mini tune they just put E tune on the Truss rod cover plate to advertise it. The new one on 2015 is called Gforce it's supposed to be improved I have mini tune( Etune ) on my 14 and it's not the greatest working Device good thing is it can be taken off and proper tuners can Be put on without any damage to guitar. I can tune faster and more accurate With my hand held tuner believe it or not?? Sometimes it goes nuts then it takes Twice as long to re tune . But other than that the 14 is one of the best sg's made
jlr430
Good luck . Let us know what you decided and why. I ended up getting a "like new" '61 reissue for $1,030 shipped. It only had one owner and everything was original with no modifications. I wasn't crazy about some of the newer features on the 2014 and 2015 SGs. From what I've gathered the price was pretty good too. Thanks again for the help everyone, I appreciate it.
