wooderson250wcg
I need new tuners to replace the original Kluson Deluxes on my 1963 Hummingbird acoustic. I know about the replicas linked below, but was wondering if there is another direct drop in option. I dont want to have to ream the holes in the peg head but Id like to have the ratio of modern tuners. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks! http://www.elderly.com/accessories/names/kluson-deluxe-tuning-machines--SD9005MNP.htm
retrorod
Doesn't the Hummingbird have gold tuners?

wooderson250wcg
They are the standard Kluson Deluxe. I know the above link is a direct drop in replacement, just curious if there are any Grover or other brands. I dont want to enlarge the holes, but Id like a better tuner. Thanks! j45nick
The problem is that most of the modern versions I can find have slightly different bushing arrangements, requiring reaming the headstock. You don't need to replace the existing bushings if they are the right inside diameter, but you do need tuners that do not require back-drilling the headstock, as the Grover versions of these do. Chances are the existing stringposts are just under 1/4", and many modern tuners are as well, which would mean you can use the existing bushings. I'll keep looking for you.
