MississippiBlue
Hes so cool :) Excellent video Rabs. Thank you. A few years back my wife and I saw Buddy Guy at Legends in Chicago. I'll never forget that show. I also got his autograph and spoke with him for a few minutes. Needless to say it was a major highlight in my life that I will always cherish. Thanks again good sir. Kindest Regards, MississippiBlue
Karloff
actually Hendrix borrowed all the theatrics from Guy. Jimi was Buddy on acid ...

Rabs
really? I don't quite know about ALL of Jimis theatrics (im not sure Buddy ever played with his teeth, or set his guitar alight? ?) But both Buddy Guy and Albert King are well known to be very big influences on Hendrix... (which indeed you can hear when you listen to them).. But then Jimi took all that and blasted in to outter space on acid :)
surfpup
Buddy Guy was imitating Jimi before Jimi was Jimi. This may be the best blues album ever... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiFaP8x4T_o That said, it's fair to point out that Buddy (as well as many other blues legends) rocked up his tone a bit after Jimi - and perhaps after SRV as well. Though one could attribute this to available technology (amp and pedal distortion) as well.
MississippiBlue
Karloff, Rabs and surfpup, All of you make some excellent points. Jimi was influenced by many master Bluesmen. He had the great gift of putting his own unique twist to the music that influenced him. His timing and phrasing were just incredible. MississippiBlue
from 5:40 on ... i'm not taking anything away from Hendrix. he took everything to whole new planet ... but he owes more than a nod to Buddy. And i'm sure Buddy wasn't the 1st to be a showman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLOcD54OlNc Hey Karloff, Nice video man thanks for posting. I'm on my IPad now so I can't post videos. Check out Little Richard. You will see Jimi's nod" to him as well. Let's remember that Jimi played what he called " The Chitlin" circuit backing up Little Richard. Rabs
By the way have you all watched the video that I posted originally? Cos we arnt just talking about playing style here.. Buddy is doing his own kinda version of Voodoo Chile... which is why the thread is entitled as it is... Cos we all know that it all came from the old blues guys but this is actually Buddy (sorta) doing Jimi.. Its all good :)
