Stabilize Bigsby tremolo?

I don't use the Bigsby. I don't want to replace it--that will leave two holes in the Riviera body where the other bridges & tail pieces won't cover up--but I am interested in keeping it stable & immovable for a few reasons as you can imagine. Any advice?

The first thing I would try is removing the spring under the handle pivot and replace it with a piece of metal tubing. You might as well remove the handle while you're at it and top it off the tubing with a washer. This will lock it in place and keep it from moving.

If you leave the handle pointed down to the strap pin and don't use it, you already have a heavy-duty trapeze tailpiece. It will be as stable as any other trapeze tailpiece.
