Gibson Duo Medalist Amplifiers

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the Gibson Duo Medalist amps here? My dad had a really old one, it's been through some really tough times and it doesn't exactly work properly anymore. When I first started out playing guitar when I was 13, I was able to use it for a short time but it kept blowing fuse after fuse, and had many electrical problems. So I ended up having to retire it for a Marshall MG412 half stack. The Marshall was a good amp as well, but their was just something so nice about that old Gibson amp. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of it, otherwise I would attach them, but any info on the old Medalist amps would be greatly welcomed :) At some point, I would love to refurbish and overhaul that old Medalist amp.

Hey kd7

any decent amp repair guy can probably get this working again, and the schematic will be the first thing they'll look for.

Hey kidblast! Lol Unfortunately in my town there aren't any decent amp repair guys, but if I do happen to stumble across someone who is familiar with working with amplifiers, I will mention it for sure! I'd love to get this amp going again in the future. Also, thank you for the links! I've found the Duo Medalist schematics on Gibson's site, I've never worked with amps before but the schematics for the Duo Medalist look complicated [scared] But I will keep in mind what you said, and if I ever come across someone who works with amps, I will mention it. Thank you for the info, kidblast! I appreciate it! :)

ya, I know, what you're saying. I don't have any one local either, I use a guy in the Boston area, which is about an hour away IF traffic is ok.

That sucks that you don't have a local amp guy either. That's good that you don't have a long drive to get to the Boston area though! I could probably find a good amp guy in one of the cities near here, it'd be a 5 hour drive but it's worth it lol!

5 hours?

I don't feel so "put out" now!

[cool]

Lol! Yupp, a 5 hour road trip drive. It's worth it though, for guitars, it always is lol! It's one of those drives where it feels like it takes forever to get to those massive skyscrapers that never seem to get any closer, it's like they just keep on looming in the distance lol!
