arlum
I was at the Gibson.com site looking under products / electric guitars and went through their 2013, 2014 and 2015 lineups. I didn't realize Gibson didn't make any Flying V's or Explorers in 2015. I'm wondering why?
'Scales
Can't fit a G-Force to those shaped headstocks?
merciful-evans
They dont make every model every year, other than the obvious popular ones that is.
James ODonnell
There are some beautiful custom shop creations listed at Wildwood. The standard editions like the 120 are also listed with the Kelliher. And the Black Out looks like a sweety too. What really catches my eye out of all of them is the Cherry stained custom shop. http://www.wildwoodguitars.com/products/841585.php?CategoryID=340&n=6# Here is an odd find, but in the same ballpark as the custom shop Gibson's. http://mjguitars.de/PRODUCTS/Dommenget-EX-Korina-Dot,188,91,3,1041.html
James ODonnell
http://www.wildwoodguitars.com/products/150008784.php?CategoryID=64&n=13 Here is a 2015 Explorer. If you really keep an eye out for all the Gibson guitars through all of the resellers you will find that many retailers have their own versions, this is available through many retailers. Great looking fretboard.
SteveFord
It looks like Composite has become the polite euphemism for Richlite. http://www.wildwoodguitars.com/products/150008784.php?CategoryID=64&n=
arlum
I wish it came with the 496R / 500T rather than the Dirty Fingers pickups. The Blackout is a cool looking Explorer. The back of the headstock is especially cool what with the absence of weird robotic tuner mechanisms.
James ODonnell
http://www.wildwoodguitars.com/products/140093220.php?CategoryID=64&n=8 Did anybody notice the sale price on the 120s? The only way I can resist is by telling myself that I need another guitar like I need another hole in my head. And I'll counterpoint that using the excuse that it would be my 3rd 2014 Gibson; 335, LP Trad, Explorer... not a bad representation.
arlum
That's a great price on the Explorer 120. I've already gone over budget for musical equipment this year. A couple grand would be standard. It's been more than 3X that amount in the first 6 months of this year. I'm just a window shopper for awhile.
James ODonnell
Its official the Explorer 120 has dropped on price through all retailers. I went down to my local and will be having one transfered to the store. I can't wait to check it out. Regarding the purchase price, I have to build my credit. Divorced over 10 years, fully recovered, but have no credit. I am justifying the purchase that way and the 'ol lady' totally gets it. I'll pay some down and finance a chip of it, every little bit of positive history helps. Gibson NAMM 2014 video on YouTube talked with Premiere Guitar (that stud) and mentioned how Gibson stopped making standard Explorers for quite some time and the 120 was a limited edition. I seem to remember the Jason Hook, Kelliher, Lzzy Hale & Blackout versions doing quite well. Whether Gibson really does stop production on a base model remains to be seen. My LP & 335 have nibs on the fret ends and the Explorer 120 is fret over binding so this should be a pleasure to play without falloff.
