I'm not a fan of gold hardware however it goes very nicely with the darkish warm woody look. The binding and inlays were excellently done and were gorgeous. Saw no flaws in the fit and finish but really was more interested in how it played and sounded. The setup was as good as, or better than what many high end guitars arrive with out of the box! The neck felt very smooth, frets were nicely level with either minimal or no real buzzing. The combination of P94 and hummer, both Gibsons, sounded very very good. Controls were smooth and responsive. The hummer sounds like it should, as does the P94, good quality harmonically rich sound. As a Les Paul is supposed to. The hardware is very nice quality in particular the tuners. These are easily some of the best tuners of any high end Epiphones. Completely smooth and accurate, the metal buttons are mounted with small screws on the shafts not molded on or cast as with lesser quality tuners. I played it for only a little time, as I'm not fond of noodling in a store. After a very short while it became obvious that nothing about the Malia is cheap. The feel, look and sounds of the Lee Malia are second to none. Frankly, I'm blown away by this guitar, Epiphone IMO got this one very right! If they ever build one without a signature and a lot less bling at a couple if hundred dollars less, I'll be first in line to try and maybe even buy one. This is a superb, well made pro level Les Paul, a go to axe. I LOVE mine. I've had it since Christmas and I've been trying to teach myself lead guitar after playing acoustic for a few years. I love it even more since I upgraded the pots and wiring. I find myself turning down the amp from previous levels. Sounds as good if not better than my Gibby LP classic, i bought it partly for the look as I will probably never see or be able to buy a '70s Gibson Artisan. IMHO, when purchasing a new good quality guitar, it should have the best available setup from the beginning. I love the looks and I also love the sound of a Gibson P94 ( I have them in a Gibson ES195) ... really a superb pickup. There is just a small niggle I have with it ... $800 for an Indonesian made guitar and they won't even bump you a case? Any Epiphone I have ever purchased at and around that price point has come with one. Epi is getting a little stingy lately ... the Black and Blue Casino is mysteriously missing a case too. I got my American Musical Supply catalog in the mail today and didn't realize that these guitars finally hit the USA until I was flipping through it. I don't care where it was made - I've been wanting one of these since Rabs posted pictures of it earlier this year. I like the coil tapping function, the pups & yes - the bling. And yes add another $95 for a damn Epiphone hard case but I have to have a hard case for all of my guitars. Theirs are expected in stock soon... and of course after I ordered it I checked a few other of the major online dealers who already have them in stock... dang it.. but that's okay - I just let the order stand.
