Larsongs
Where is the best place to buy Chrome Gibson USA Dogear P90 Pickups? Are they even available in the USA? Thanks, Lucky
Rabs
You will probably have to buy normal dog ear P90s and get some chrome covers for them seperatly id imagine. Not sure they even sell them new? You may have to go with another make unless you can find some on Ebay or something
Larsongs
Does that mean Gibson doesn't sell them?
Ryan H
Does that mean Gibson doesn't sell them? Gibson only currently makes 1 model with chrome dogears (the ES-390). They have no reason to offer them aftermarket; not enough demand. Epiphone makes the Casino and Wildkat, which also feature chrome dogears, but once again there's not enough of a demand. You can probably find covers on the internet, buy a regular Dogear P90 and swap the covers. -Ryan
Larsongs
Looks like Fralin may be the way to go if I make the mod. They make chrome Dogear P90's. I know they sound great. I've read about aftermarket chrome Covers. Most are Asian. Common complaint is they don't fit right. Thanks

Larsongs
Lollars are supposed to be good Pups. Curious how they are compared to Fralins? Epiphone foreign? Is there a source? Thanks, Lucky

Why wouldn't they be available aftermarket for their Customers? I notice there are over wound & under wound etc. from Lindy Fralin & Jason Lollar. if I wanted a Set like the Epiphone Casino Originals what would I ask for? Thanks, Lucky Well this is the current list of what Gibson has in their shop http://store.gibson.com/pickups-and-electronics/?sort=featured&page=1 And looking around they did sell them at one point but not at the moment.. I just saw a cream covered dogear in a UK shop http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/parts-c4/pickups-c108/p90-pickups-c399/gibson-p-90-single-coil-pickup-with-creme-dogear-cover-p4392 There is also GFS which ive heard good things about http://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-Alnico-Vintage-Wound-Dogear-Cream-Pickup_c_104.html Apart from that, cant really find much else apart from some "boutique" makers... Including our very own Searcy.. He makes great pickups As for comparisons you will have to hit the forms and Youtube for that.

I can see 57 Classics & P90's but most of the others? Is there really that big of a market for them? I have a GFS in my Squier CV Tele. It sounds pretty good. But not as good as Fralin. Not sure but Lollars probably sound better from others have told me. I'm curious about finding a Winder in So Cal? Any recommendations? Im all the way in the U.K. I did order a pair of Searcy (from this forum) pickups for my first build but then I got stung with import tax which can be a bit nasty so I stick to the UK... But they were a great set of pups definitely comparable to a Gibson pup So you will have to get some feedback from your fellow countrymen for that im afraid.. brundaddy
I love p90s. Big fan of Johnny Thunders, George Thorogood's sound as well. Little while back, I was determined to record some tracks for a film soundtrack using a Wildkat that was lying around the studio - it played & looked great. I could not get anything but mud out of this guitar, and not in a good way. Really sounded like muffled ***, so I ended up using an Italia and a Danelectro to get the job done. Maybe play some p90 Epis before you push ahead to buy the Epi p90s. FWIW I dropped a GFS "Dream 90" in one of mine and I get nothing but gorgeous tones ... and more compliments on the tone than any Gibson I've ever played, now that I think about it, ay yi yi. People have said it sounds better than the 1961 p90 I have in another guitar.

Zentar
http://www.teslapick...=vr-p90-dog-ear http://www.axesrus.co.uk/Axesrus-P90-Pickup-Cover-Metal-Dog-Ear-p/metaldogp90cov.htm BUMP The Tesla VR P90 Dog Ears are a deepening of the mystery into why you can't buy chrome dog ear P90 pups. Tesla offers no prices. You can't order from them. They list one US distributor GuitarSupplyExperts.com which apparently is out of business. Tesla does make a beautiful chrome cover P90 dog ear set but you can't buy them in the USA it seems. I'm not going to order anything from overseas. It looks like the VR P90 dog ears would be exceptionally expensive anyway. Perhaps this is a case of "if you have to ask the price you can't afford them".
