LarryUK
I've just won an acoustic on eBay and it's great apart from one fret that has a small notch in it. It looks like something has struck it and dented it. My question is. Is a solder repair successful? Have any of you done it before? I've looked on YouTube and there are videos of these repairs. So is it a done thing?
Guest Farnsbarns
Solder is very soft. I've never heard of it before. I have a hard time imagining it would work. Is it something you've heard of?
SteveFord
Good luck with that one.

SteveFord
I don't know how long it would hold up and no, I haven't tried it. Is the guitar valuable enough to warrant a new fret?
Zentar
That fret has to be replaced. Partial fretboard repairs are commonly done by luthiers. Frets are replaced but must be filed. You don't need a full fretboard job. That's not an expensive job. Any music store guitar tech can probably fix that. It's not even a certified luthier type job. Rabs
There are videos on YouTube of people doing it. Ive never heard of anyone doing that before.. I just watched this vid As he says... Youd do it if you cant afford to buy the fret and or pay someone to do it for you and want a cheap way of repair.. So I donno.. Give it a go and let us know what happens :)
retrorod
I have done it a couple of times. It works fine for a cheap, temporary fix. Definitely not a permanent fix if the guitar is played a lot and fretted on the particular damaged fret!
