Mindseye
Looking to buy my first custom. I found a '83 wine red on craigslist and I'm worried if its fake. I'm a noob so I came here for help.
jdgm
Hard to see anything wrong from the pictures as they are very small. Looks nice enough - how much is the seller asking?
HEADKNOCKER
Looks 100% Real to me from the 7 pics on craigslist You decide if it's worth the asking price.. Also that is the period correct case too.. I just looked up 1983 Les Paul custom on adhunter & it was the first one that came up
Mindseye
He's asking $2650. I was alittle worried because you can't clearly see the made in usa on the back of the headstock.

pippy
Looks 100% genuine. FWIW not many counterfeiters go so far as to accurately fake early '80s Customs. In fact I don't think I've ever seen any. Ever. Not even in the '80s... But always best to ask first! Looking forward to a possible NGD thread. P.
ajay
You have to look deeper than the Made In The USA Rollmark. Every Chinese Gibson has that stamp. If it'd hard to read, that can be a good sign. If You go to inspect it, ask him to have the strings removed so that You can examine the pickups and also inspect the routing for Gibson precision. Also, remove the Truss Rod Cover to examine the Truss Rod Nut and the routed area itself, and study so that You'll know what You're looking at. Take the back covers off, and again study Gibson's wiring so that the pots and caps, and soldering look good. Study the headstock inlay, and the Gibson logo. Also check out 1983 binding and make sure that it matches. Try to look at the ZMahogany "butt" of the guitar and check for a one-piece body. Good Luck!
