DownTheRiviera
So I got a Cherry red Epiphone Dot, and I'm loving it to death. However, I want to replace the stop tune-o-matic tailpiece with a frequensator tail piece. How should I do this? are there going to be any holes left after I remove the tune o matic? Is it really worth it to do?
burchster
Yes you will still have the tailpiece stud holes. Some people just screw the studs in and leave them or you get the threaded part out and fill the holes.
Parabar
You could also do like Gibson and have a plastic plate made like this one at a trophy/engraving shop to cover the holes:
joevacc
I have seen one person who made two wooden buttons and added studs that he screwed into the sleeves. He also finished them to match his guitar. It looked great. jv
Dennis G
Or just leave well enough alone: I keep looking for something to use, but the more I look at it the less it bothers me. I asked my luthier what he does and he says he pulls the threaded pieces out, fills the holes with dowels, then stains to match. Too much work for me. Aster1
See if you can find some chrome screws in a True-Value Hardware store (often in the bin some sell for Motorcycle parts). Cut them shorter if needed and screw them in to fill the threaded inserts. Aster
