L5Larry
...the id # on the pot. is70-027 This number is a part number, not a mfg date code. Look on the other pots until you find a seven digit number, most likely starting with 137. Close to what you have already surmised, the SN lists as '70-72 (not '73). The back of headstock photo fails to show the "volute" area. Does it have one? More info needed: The mfg/date code off the pots, and volute, or no volute. John 71
Thanks for the help.. Yes it has a slight volute and the 7 digit # is 1377251 which i suspect dates it as a 72'? Thanks again
L5Larry
the 7 digit # is 1377251 which i suspect dates it as a 72'? The pots were manufactured by CTS Corp. in Chicago (137), during the 51st week (51) of 1972 (72). They were most certainly could not have been installed in a guitar until sometime in 1973. So there you have it.... an (early) 1973 LP Custom. This also shows how much of a mess Gibson serial numbers are from that period, as by SN alone, 1973 was not an option as listed in my published info.
