The lack of 'EMG' icons on the pickups stand out, unless they were worn off. The fact that the 'STEINBERGER' logo is peeling up. That shouldn't happen, not unless the original player was unusually rough on the instrument. I don't know. It's tough to tell by just photos. I'll gladly listen to your input regarding the features and less-than-remarkable pedigree of this fellow's Steinberger copy. I'm always willing to accept an education from a Steinberger expert. I have only held or played them a half dozen times over the years, so my experience is limited. I did get to chat briefly with Rick Derringer in 1991 at the Batschkapp, in Frankfurt am Main, regarding his Steinberger six string. He was a really nice guy, and his Steinberger was quite interesting. It had the full body (though no headstock naturally), and was red. :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

sparquelito Posted May 6, 2016 Share Posted May 6, 2016 No, just to clarify, I am not a Steinberger expert. I have never offered that I was. Nor would I ever want to be. Steinbergers are really cool, they stay in tune very nicely, and they have a consistent tone. But there is an artificial feel to the neck that just doesn't turn me on. More so for the six-strings than the bass models, but still it's there. That composite thing. You have something wooden, black, without a head, but doesn't even contain a single part that's made by Steinberger.
