Thank you Bence!! I've had my doubts too but wanted to confirm. It is hard to tell when the pics are of poor quality .

I admire your knowlege of gibsons really.

Rock on!! Thanks once again

Hello Paul!

You are welcome!

Most often fakes are advertised with poor quality pictures, avoiding to show tell-tale signs. But they always fail. ;)

Good luck... Bence

Hello again!

Almost all the details point towards a pre-'75 Gibson Les Paul Custom.

But, the serial number...it should have a 6-digit serial number for that era!

This is strange, but still the guitar looks 100% genuine Gibson from the much-loved Norlin-era.

Cheers... Bence

i think that is an 05, by the serial number, but if it is, it has been through hell and back. everything looks right for a LP Custom. the only thing i would be concerned with is the Headstock, the diamond shaped inlay looks a bit wide, and the gap reveals is not even. i think it is a newer LP that for what ever reason someone has tried to make look old, maybe to get a better price. I can't be absolutely certain that is real or not. that headstock just really bothers me. the ad it self says it is an 05. if it were me, i would not buy it.

Best wishes... Bence

Definitely. [thumbdn]

Guys , may I bother you with one more thing..

What would you say about this custom. This looks like good thing I think. What vintage it would be ?

Agree completely. What a nice Black Beauty [love] and what a puzzling serial number! [blink]

Perhaps Jon S. from Gibson Customer Service will chime in here and clarify the situation?

EUREKA!

Quoted from http://archive.gibson.com/Files/downloads/bluebook/GibsonSERIALNUMBERS.pdf

"During the period from 1975-1977 Gibson used a transfer that had eight digit numbers, the first two

indicate the year, 99=1975, 00=1976 and 06=1977, the following six digits are in the 100000 to 200000

range. MADE IN USA were also included on the transfer and some models had LIMITED EDITION also

applied. A few bolt on neck instruments had a date ink stamped on the heel area."

So the relevant Gibson Les Paul Custom in Ebony from http://olx.pl/oferta/okazja-gibson-les-paul-custom-usa-CID751-IDbFgN9.html#17673b17cc was made in 1976.

I am not sure why there is a question on the year, the sellers description says

"Gibson Les Paul Custom USA 2005 rok. Very little used guitars, stood in the home more kolekcjonersko. If you have additional questions, please write."

the thing I question is is how sloppy the inlay is, it is too wide and uneven. it just does not look right. I mean, everything else looks correct. I just have never seen any LP Custom inlays that sloppy.

It DOES in fact look like a genuine LPC. And it does NOT look like one built in 2005, it actually DOES have the correct details for a mid to late 70's LPC.

Kinda spooky.

seriel # does support recent, though. (Of corse, I haven't looked it up, just making a statement based on format).

I am curious about this guitar, because in 2005, I was not aware of this model, which seems to be built with true and correct specs for the 70's, not 2005.

This may indeed be a a particular model, a "reissue" of some sort, rather than a standard production LPC.

Having said all that, it's rare I am fooled, but I could very well be by this one. I can't say it's genuine, but it sure looks like it to me.

What I would do is try and find this particular model in the catalog from 2005. If it's there, might be a whole lotta guitar disguised as a regular everyday LPC.

It is definitely not made in 2005. All the properties perfectly match 1976.

Actually, that's how it would look after it had aged a quite a bit. They don't look like that new.

I have seen a lot like that.

I have seen a lot like that.

A bandmate of mine had one like these in the early 1980s. He sold her during the 1990s and is regretting it ever since.

I already did. Please look at my post #13.

Opps...thought you were reffering to AFTER 1977...Just kinda glossed over it.

It isn't '75-'77/ Those serial #s were a decal, at least mid or early '75.

I get the idea it doesn't follow the current seriel # scheme, as in it's before Gibson had the date code, etc.

The "Made in USA" is throwing me, though.
