GILLMAN ROYCE
Hi Forum ! Simply put, are these two sets the same ? If not, what's the difference and which would sound better in a 335 ? THX!
Zentar
Some of Epiphone pickups use 43awg wire in the coils. The Epi P90 uses 43awg while the Gibby P90 uses 42awg. Epiphone P90 DC resistance = 12ko Gibson P90 DC resistance 8ko I do not know what wire gauge is used in the Epi alnico humbuckers but I do know Epi pickups and Gibby pickups have big differences. LPS1976
Hi Forum ! Simply put, are these two sets the same ? If not, what's the difference and which would sound better in a 335 ? THX! I think the biggest difference is the going to be the sound. I don't know all the technical specs or which would sound better to you. personally, I'd go with Gibson '57's all day over Epi pickups. they aren't really in the same league. GILLMAN ROYCE
thanks - most of what I 've been reading points to the 57 classics as being a favored 335 pup. Interesting point about the wire gauge, though.
merciful-evans
The pickup pairings can be confusing too. While both share the same neck pup... A '57 Classic set can differ as follows The 339 Studio has a Super '57 Classic at the bridge. The LP Less+ has a '57 Pro at the bridge. even the published spec looks as if it may use a different magnet (I dont think it does) ES-339: Magnet Material: Alnico II Alnico II Less+ : Magnet Material: Alnico #2 (smooth) Alnico #2 (smooth)
capmaster
For naming magnet materials, Arabic and Roman numerals are used as well, meaning the same when forming the same number.

I was more puzzled about the 'smooth' suffix.
