Marc Cohn's piano song on guitar.Always liked this song so had a go at it.Got a few flubs as usual.

Hot day here in Sydney.90 degrees. Final of our local football code today...Rugby League. But the other Aussies here on the boards probably don't follow this code, popular in New South Wales and Queensland only.

So it's a day for beer, balls and barbies!Long weekend too.

Cheers

Nice rendition, FB. Don't sweat the flubs. They don't ruin your delivery anyway.... At 68 I've grown rather tired of the polished and commercialized sound of the music on mainstream radio. I like "live music" like you're doing here. Hearing this is kind of like being at a coffeehouse or walking by a street busker. It's real. You are a prodigious recorder...lol....Keep it going. I enjoy it.

Ha! Enjoyed that maximally. Always like the sound of the rooms you record in. Watch those levels, though (actually felt it was good for certain spots to go into the red zone, for effect, you know). Hope all went well for you & your code.

Thanks FB! Nicely done!

I always thought that was Bruce Someone or other? Guess not...

Put the teev on while cooking is going on and the show I have been glued to about renovating a multi-storey apartment building by teams wasn't on - replaced by rugby final on 3 channels? which I know zip about. I settled down to watch it for a minute, but they went to have a rest and the tv ads were driving me crazy. So........ I don't understand how all NSW is watching 2 Queensland teams?

I went to the local Grand Final 3 or 4 times in the 80s with the Princess' father because her brother didn't want to go with him, so I got the prize ticket only to find he is a true sadist that (forces) [biggrin] me to go to a pub in the morning to drink 'traditional' Guiness grand final breakfast and then walk from town to the stadium and the rest is a blur of me disgracing myself..........

Cheers guys.

And the football was a fantastic game. Best Rugby League Grand Final in years. Not often a sporting event lives up to expectations when your team isn't playing - but this game had it all - level at full time and won by a field goal in extra time by the game's most popular player.

North Queensland Cowboys 17 - Brisbane Broncos 16....not sure why our footy teams have American names! [biggrin].

And yea BBG always good to beat the Poms. That's Rugby Union...Rugby League's posh cousin.

Thanks Dan and Sal for your comments.Much appreciated.

Sal there has been a small modicum of interest in your NFL in Australia lately as one of our former Rugby League players, Jarrod Hayne ,has managed to jag a place on the San Francisco Forty Niners roster. But from the first couple of games they appear to be a tad mediocre. But still, good on Jarrod for having a go in a big pond.

Have you Aussies never heard of Darren Bennett one of your own who finished a career in Aussie Rules football then walked on to the San Diego Chargers and dominated the NFL?

From Wiki:

As an American football player, following a three club career in the National Football League he is regarded as one of the greatest players of the 1990s and a member of the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team.[1]

This combination made him notable as arguably the most successful of the Australian sportsmen linked to professional American Football in history.

This is the best part:

As a former Aussie rules player, and considerably larger than most specialist kickers in American football (6'5"/1.96 m, 235 lb/106.5 kg), he did not shy away from physical contact on special teams. This willingness to hit, rare among kickers, was never more evident than when he knocked an opposing punt returner out cold in his rookie season.

Thanks for your posts, Flatbaroque. I always enjoy them as I did your cover of Walking in Memphis.

Always great track, tough one to cover. I thought you capured the feeling of the song well, lots of emotion. Although I thought you strained the vocals somewhat, almost trying a bit too hard. I would suggest going a bit lighter with the vox and just letting it out rather than forcing.

I watched the AFL grand final at 6.30am local with a few Ausie mates, but missed the NRL match, now i wish i would have watched it.

Thanks Aero.

FullAlp. Yes I remember Darren Bennet's story.I didn't realise he did quite that well. His name has been bought up a lot lately too since another Aussie made the NFL cut.

EA..yea I found this a difficult song to get something presentable..all about the groove..and that's one of my many guitar playing weaknesses.maintaining a strong groove. The vocals start ok but...ha...they do get a touch of the poor man's (struggling to reach the note) Springsteen to them [biggrin].

Yea the AFL was a bit of a dud wasn't it.Pretty much over by quarter time.
