ant7629
Hi all Tomorrow, I will hopefully be buying a used 58 reissue les Paul in bourbon burst. I have owned many Gibsons over the years but never a custom shop. Can anyone advise what li need to be looking out for interma of authenticity? Usually the fret nibs and lacquer smell give a fake Gibson away for me, but I'm sure you guys know what to look for . http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=252132914144&globalID=EBAY-GB Thanks

cody78
Beautiful R8 you've found there. I can't help much with regards to looking for signs of authentication (it looks legit to me too, but I'm no expert), but one thing I would say is the price seems a bit high and you should be able to get it lowered with a bit of bargaining. R8's regularly can be found for £200 - £400 cheaper than that. Here's a used 2011 bourbon R8 for sale at Peach Guitars at the moment. Might be worth considering? http://www.peachguitars.com/guitars/electric-guitars/gibson-custom-58-les-paul-plain-top-bourbon-burst-used.htm

Funny how the serial number is garbled on all pictures except for the first one showing the COA.
ant7629
Thanks guys. I've got him down to 2300 is that a fair price?

Why is an A/B comparison hardly possible when you need it?
cody78
Thanks guys. I've got him down to 2300 is that a fair price? That's a pretty good price I think, but you could always quote the price Peach are selling theirs for (of £2199) and see if they will sell it for that. I'm pretty sure I saw another used one being sold at Coda Music not long ago for either £1999 or £2099, but I'm not sure if it was in as good condition as the one you have found. Hope the buy goes well
ant7629
Took the plunge! Beautiful guitar. I'm amazed how different it feels to a Gibson USA Les Paul. Feels handmade. Pics to follow!
