Compensated Guitar Nut S.O.S

In my youth, my late father gave me one piece of advice: When buying a car, always buy a Chevy or a Ford because no matter where you break down, somebody will know how to fix it.

Not knocking the BFTS -- I know some swear by it -- but it strikes me as a fancy foreign car just waiting to break down in the middle of nowhere. If you need to get it fixed, your average repair shop may have no clue how to deal with it.

I also wonder if the problem it is meant to address is really that much of an issue. If you look at the history of guitar greats, from Segovia to Hendrix to Watson to Knopfler to Atkins to White to hundreds or thousands of others, they've managed to make some very good music with guitars burdened with normal nuts and saddles.

I know others may disagree.
