Bass Man
I was hoping next year to buy Gibson ES339 Guitar which to get sounds on laptop. I found on my Google search a Gibson Guitar forum which said it is not good guitar and deliver buyer found dirty and no manual. It was no more then solid guitar sound because of wood on back. Is this good guitar or should I buy Epiphone ES339. I hope some light on this will be of helpful for future knowledge. When was Gibson ES339 first produced, is it old model like Gibson ES345. merciful-evans
Hi Bassman, Compare these specs here as a starting point http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2015/Memphis/1964-ES-345TD.aspx http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2015/Memphis/ES-339.aspx http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Archtop/ES-339-PRO.aspx I have a Gibson 2015 ES-339 Studio. I like it. Before buying I played 3 Epiphone ES-339s, and more of the Gibsons. The Epiphones I tried were more consistent. The Gibsons varied a little more. I strongly suggest playing several rather than using mail order blind. The ES-339 has the big lump of wood running through it (to control feedback). It makes the guitar heavier (like an SG) and it also spoils the acoustic properties somewhat. So its more like a solidbody than it appears. The Gibson ES-390 has the same body but without the lump of wood. Because the pickups need to be kept outside the body, P90 pickups are used. This guitar is louder acoustically and much lighter. It will feedback easily though. Especially if you play loudly and use much gain. The Epiphone equivolent is the Casino Coupe. http://www.gibson.com/products/electric-guitars/es/gibson-memphis/2014/es-390.aspx http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Electrics/Archtop/Casino-Coupe.aspx I have a Casino Coupe also. It is very different to the ES-339.
