Dog ears

I been meaning to ask you all. What is the real if any diffrence in a Epi P90 dog ear and a Gibson pickup of the same configuration ?

the Gibson P-90's are made in the USA by Gibson. the Epiphone P90 is made by different overseas manufacturers. I would imagine the Gibsons are made with higher quality components...and of course; the sound.

Although I've never played a Gibson P-90, I've played almost every other brand (over a dozen different ones), installed on my Casino, Junior and ZBD. Other than the Biltofts I tried on the Casino (then moved to the ZBD), I found nothing really worth the extra expense, except Lollars. I could have saved myself a lot of time and money had I just gone straight to them, in the beginning. I think that the Epi p-90, went set up correctly, is really a pretty good pickup, and when I first started experimenting, I wished I'd kept them on the Casino. I will say, the Lollars changed my mind and totally changed the Casino. Don't know how much the Gibsons are, they may be the answer. Keep us posted.

Thanks LPS Sorry I forgot the rest but is ther enough diffrence in sound to pay me to change them out ? Or rather have the tech that does my work change em?

unless you're unhappy with the way the stock pickups sound; I wouldn't worry about it. by the time you change buy the Gibsons and pay to have them changed out you could have gotten another guitar to add to your stable. besides the Gibsons, there are tons of other options out there that will sound comparable and aren't as expensive.

Oh ok. I thought you had a LP of that year and yes it would be verry nice but know what? A guitar like that would have to be worth atleast and that's the very least probly 5K and I'd be afraid to have it in the house. I never thought of the pickup cost and all. I like the sound of mine really and on the bridge I run the pole screws up just a little to make it twang more. Reason I asked the dog ear question was the on going eternal debate of :Gibson is better because.... Or Epiphone is better because of.... You know on and on it goes lol we like our Epis and don't really care .. Right?

I recently got a Gary Clark Jr. casino. I've previously had 2 casinos with epi p90's and I really did like the epi P90, it's one of the better pups they have imo; however, after playing the Gibson one there is a clear difference. As I'm sure the majority of you know, the casino can be difficult to control at times due to feedback. The GCJ casino feels easier to tame and the Clean tones are much clearer, I'm hoping that makes sense. the epi pup is a lot hotter imo as well. The Gibson is definitely superior to the epi, but that's not to say the epi one is a bad pickup

I have a standard Casino with Epi P-90s and an Elitist with the Gibson P-90s and I think the wood makes more difference than the pickups. One thing that did make a huge difference was swapping out the Epiphone jack and switch for Switchcraft. That brought the Epi P-90s pretty close to the Gibsons. The Gibsons do seem a little fatter, but it could just be the guitars, it's that subtle.

ive herd a lot of debate on tone woods and since you mentioned that it got me thinking. Your probably right a semi hollow body like ours has to have some diffrence as opposed to a solid body. I also like the switch idea too. I ran the pole pieces up a hair in my bridge pickup and it got a lot brighter and even got that Duane Eddy twang too. Or close anyway. Thanks for all the help y'all. I appreciate it
