"... then she opened up a book of poems and handed it to me. written by an italian poet from the 15th century. and everyone one of those words rang true and glowed like burning coals. pouring off of every page like it was written in my soul from me to you. tangled up in blue"

"beauty walks a razors edge, someday I'll make it mine"

"but i'll see you in the sky above, in the tall grass, in the ones I love. you're gonna make me lonesome when you go"

You can drink a lot of coffee in Brazil, but the bill is gonna make-a you ill.

The minstrel in the gallery, looked down on the rabbit-run, and threw away his looking-glass, saw his face in everyone.

And I did my time in your rodeos, been so long and I got nothing to show.

Don't you know I'm plain loco? Fool that I am, I'd do it all over again.

"And, in the end, the Love you take, is equal to the love, you make!"

Also, "I Am The Walrus" the whole song, and "Lucy In The Sky (with Diamonds), just because the lyrics are so

colorful, weird, and picturesque.

A lot of Dylan's stuff, to. "Tangled Up, in Blue," for one.

To my feel the most cutting lines ever are the final rhymes of "The Rock" by the much too early gone Harry Chapin (1942-1981), released in 1975 on his "Portrait Gallery" album:

"But high up on the mountain

When the wind is hitting it

If you're watching very closely

The rock slips a little bit"

To me the dramatic lyrics of this song always seemed an analogy to human blindness and hubris. The use of the bassoon at the end of the song still comes to me as the scariest, ghastliest instrumental part I ever listened to. This song hit me to the bone amidst my teens and still does.

Can you picture what will be

So limitless and free

Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand

In a...desperate land

Lost in a Roman...wilderness of pain

And all the children are insane

"There must be some kind of way out of here, "

Said the joker to the thief,

"There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief.

Sisters, niggers, whities

Jews and the crackers

Don't worry, if there's hell below, we're all gotta go

Ah

Can't leave the lyrical genius of Morrison or Mayfield off the list.

Soft Parade?

When I was back there in seminary school,

Stones..........

Just call me Lucifer

Cause I'm in need of some restraint

So if you meet me

Have some courtesy

Have some sympathy, and some taste

Use all your well-learned politesse

Or I'll lay your soul to waste,

On and on I suppose, I don't listen to much from back then anymore. CCR had a nice run of genius too....

Well, take me back down where cool water flows, yeah.

Let me remember things I love,

Stoppin' at the log where catfish bite,

Walkin' along the river road at night,

Barefoot girls dancin' in the moonlight.

I can hear the bullfrog callin' me.

Wonder if my rope's still hangin' to the tree.

Love to kick my feet 'way down the shallow water.

Shoefly, dragonfly, get back t'your mother.

Pick up a flat rock, skip it across Green River.

Welllllll!

I got my own world to live through

And I ain't gonna copy you.

Whew, I feel fortunate to have lived through the period to make it to this period of peace and love. Love you too.

How we doing, everyone alright?

There are a lot of single lines from lyrics that stick with me for one reason or another. Some some have personal meaning and others I just like because...

Doesn't mean that much to me, to mean that much to you

And my time is a piece of wax, falling on the termite, who's choking on the splinters

the heat was hot [blink]

I don't need you to worry for me cause I'm alright. I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home

The crazy lyrics I think are just part of writing poetry and the easy natural combination with music. I think some were just better than others at it.

Anger, he smiles,

towering in shiny metallic purple armour

Queen Jealousy, envy waits behind him

Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground

Blue are the life-giving waters taken for granted,

They quietly understand

Once happy turquoise armies lay opposite ready,

But wonder why the fight is on

But they're all bold as love, yeah, they're all bold as love

Yeah, they're all bold as love

Just ask the axis

My red is so confident that he flashes trophies of war,

and ribbons of euphoria

Orange is young, full of daring,

But very unsteady for the first go round

My yellow in this case is not so mellow

In fact I'm trying to say it's frigthened like me

And all these emotions of mine keep holding me from, eh,

Giving my life to a rainbow like you

But, I'm eh , yeah, I'm bold as love

When logic and proportion

Have fallen sloppy dead

And the White Knight is talking backwards

And the Red Queen's off with her head

Remember what the doormouse said

Feed your head

Yes, King Crimson, Uriah heep, many bands had that trippy mystical escapist thing going on Pink Floyd, Moody Blues. Its still used today and has been historically but the list goes on and on from the above period Steely Dan and Yes no doubt.

"I Talk To The Wind"

Said the straight man to the late man

Where have you been

I've been here and I've been there

And I've been in between.

Some great ones here, bringing back a lot of memories...when Dylan was on he was unbeatable wasn't he?

And a 'worst line'?

Step forward Mr S Stills of Manassas!

"Way back East in the mist and the fog

I knew a woman, she had a dog"

"How Far", Ist Manassas LP

Yep. It's a toss up between Dylan & Prine as to who's lyrics bounce around in my head the most.
